Blues Traveler (Dan) and I both have one and it does improve response. But not like a 440! | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 | Maybe like a 420? heh heh...420.... | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | Ahh, you guys know me too well. First thing to happen is that cool new window tint that fades from smoke to chrome on the rear windows. That will probably be purchased tonight. I'm planning on a set of R/T badges from a Stratus for the front doors. I'm debating on the grill and bumpers. I figure I can score a chrome grill from a boneyard, but the thought of painting the current one black to match the body (and Endangered Species) is appealing to me. Sooner or later, the rear bumper will probably just be removed (gas tank is on the side now, so no safety issue there. I'll be measuring the Nor Cal wing off the 83 this weekend, if it fit, it'll go on.
The 77 shorty will probably go up for sale, but I want to get it all together first. As clean as that thing is, it should be worth a few grand. As long as i can tal Beth into it, I'd love to get rid of the 83, too. She loves that interior, tho, so that's a hard sell. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 | The Dodge roof was made from the same die for the entire run from 71 to 04....my uncle works for the company that built the dies...so the wing should fit.
Paint the grille black, I have the chrome grille on the 95 Conversion and I'm trying to find a clean painted one for it...If I don't sell the van first. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | Yeah, after looking at it more today, the grille and the bumpers will be painted black. Everyone has chrome. So hopefully sometime soon I can get a quart of the same black, and shoot the grille, bumpers, wing, and visor.
I don't think I can use the Fastman throttle body on the 2002, b/c there is no way to upgrade this computer. The 93 computers have 9 leads coming out of them, the 2002 has 90. It was an emissions test motor for the pickups. For now, this is all I need. The 5.2 has enough beans to pull Endangered Species, and I already have a fast van, so I don't need to prove anything with this one. Gosh, I must be growing up! Although the thought of choppig it has crawled through my head many times already, so maybe not! lol! | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82777 July 20th 2005 10:27 pm | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 | I like the Dodge's looks, except for the mirrors in the front shot....just makes me think..."M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E..."
Don't know why they dropped the vent windows and added the "ears". The old mirrors looked fine.
At least they aren't as obvious on am all black van... | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 4,043 | here's a crude idea of what my 95 Dodge Perversion van would look like with a black grille....

I actually will be looking around for a set of matching Welds, but in more conservative sizes! The similarities to Endangered Species are no coincidence, although I don't want it to be a carbon copy. I like all of my vans to have their own identity, not just linked to my "signature van". I'm still trying to come up with a name for it. I want something that is loosely related to the whole Endangered Species theme, a van that is the last of it's breed, or the final run, or the elusive animal I've been searching for for 9 years 9when I first wanted this style Dodge). I was hoping to get the wing on before Slam, but it didn't happen. The only advantage to them is that they get rid of the hinges, but I drive my vans too much for them, I never understood how vanners got groceries into their vans with gullwings. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82837 March 03rd 2006 6:26 pm | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,101 old hand | old hand Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,101 | there good for when it rains. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82839 March 03rd 2006 9:35 pm | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 7,662 Likes: 2 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 7,662 Likes: 2 | yep, they can be a pain in the butt....BTDT.Who would of figured the body lines from a mid would have matched up............Wookee [ March 03, 2006, 08:37 PM: Message edited by: wookee ] | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82840 March 05th 2006 5:53 pm | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 4,338 vantooner | vantooner Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 4,338 | Boooooooo!
Just kidding Wayne. I too thing gullwings are cool and all, but not a good application for a daily driver.
Also wouldn't the rain run in the top of the door?
Best thing I have found for when it rains is get in, close the door, set up the table, crank the tunes and consume beverages. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82841 March 05th 2006 7:08 pm | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,003 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,003 | where o where can i find some mid dodge gull wings? I'v had my eye open for awhile and have had no luck! since my van is no longer a daily driver I think they would be kewl as hell especially since they would be plenty high enough that u wouldnt bump your head! | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82843 March 05th 2006 9:39 pm | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 3,124 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 3,124 | ok, Boooo to both of you!
I prefer the gullwings, for a couple of reasons.
The smooth look, the custom appeal, the light weight ( which could benefit a race van ).as far as practical for a daily driver, maybe not, it depends on where you're driving it to. I would venture to say that most, if not all vanners with a custom van have another vehicle for getting groceries, etc.
Also, anyone who thinks a gullwing door is just a simple bolt on couldnt be more wrong. The hinge holes have to be welded up, and there is much more body work involved in smoothing and fitting than you would normally put into a set of stock doors. The rear door on my van had to have almost 3/4 of an inch added to the width to make it fit right, that means a ton of fiberglass work, recreating the body line.
Also, weatherstrips are not available for this application, and generic type weatherstrips must be used, which are much more expensive than even NOS weatherstripping, when you figure up the footage you need. Even after all the pitfalls and expense, I'll gladly keep my gullwings.
Wayne, that van is looking awesome! Keep up the good work! | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82844 March 06th 2006 5:19 pm | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | Thanks Boot.
One of the things I alwasy loved abouty Endangers Species is that I DO get groceries in it. I drive that van everywhere (last year not as much b/c it was a transition year with the new motor and working bugs out), but believe me, you talk to a lot more people about custom vans at the grocery store, post office, and library than you will at any car show.
To each his own, but I'm just not a gullwing guy, especially since probably 75-80% of the vans in show-n-shine have em. They've become "common custom" IMO. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82845 March 06th 2006 5:36 pm | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,003 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,003 | Thanx Casey I think I was on there before... it says 799.00 plus 150.00 shipping Plus 45.00 for a hinge and 95.00 for struts! wayyy more then I was thinkin of going... have to mull it over awhile and in the mean time gonna still keep an eye open... | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82846 March 06th 2006 6:19 pm | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 532 Likes: 1 addict | addict Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 532 Likes: 1 | I like stuff that is really origianal so I dont care for MOST gullwings, that being said, some gullwings are more original than others... for example i really like superbeasts adding the front door to the side door was a real creative alterinitive... just want to say most costum vans i have seen have been pretty cool gullwing or not. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82847 March 18th 2006 11:53 am | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | I got some smoothies mounted, they still need to be polished. They'll be good enough till I have the money for the Cragars.

When I mix the paint for Endangered Species before Spring Back, the rear bumper on the 02 will get the black treatment. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82850 March 21st 2006 1:24 am | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 | Next you gotta shave them door handles. | | | Re: MY 2002 DODGE!!!!!!!! #82851 March 20th 2006 5:41 pm | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | OP pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | Actually, I still want to see if I can make the chrome PT Cruiser ones work. Shaved doors don't always want to open in the winter, otherwise they'd be gone. | | |
