You will need to replace them in pares, but you are supposed to always replaces springs in pair the same way you replace shocks in pairs. My van had oval type front eye bushings, replacements were round eye. What matters is that distance from the center of the spring to the front eye mount and the distance from the center of the spring to rear mount. As for the spring hangers I know what you are talking about. I found another company who supplies the correct "shaped" hangers. http://www.autoandtrucksprings.com/...n_Dodge_Wagon_Suspension_Kits-220-1.htmlI was able to reuse my old hangers, but I had to replace the brackets as they were rotted out. I have a thread that covers the entire replacement of the rear portion of the frame that the rear of the springs attach to, as well as the floor, front spring section, front frame. Back in 2011-2012 I forgot when I replaced the springs. | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 addict | addict Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 | | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 | YES Big thank you that's the right parts. I,m thinking hey this might not be to bad after all. I gota read your post on the leafs. You're welcome. When you said wrong hangers I knew what you meant as I considered replacing my hangers when I replaced the hanger brackets, but it wasn't necessary in my case so I didn't bother. I just cold galvanized them. Again it's fine to use the round eye leafs, just replace both of them. You have to replace both springs no matter what. | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 | It's very possible I might be able to reuse the Hangers and the Shackles as they are rusted but not eaten away. Might be able to wire wheel them and paint. That would save 200 + bucks | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 addict | addict Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 | It's very possible I might be able to reuse the Hangers and the Shackles as they are rusted but not eaten away. The fatigue life suffers due to rust though, but the hangers are quite durable. | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 addict | addict Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 645 | The shackle backet you could probably get on rock auto if it's anything like mine, they're bout 25 bucks each. | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 90 | Some pictures I took tonight You can see the broken spring and see the bolt this is front of the spring passenger side Rear shackle Rear spring mount | | | Re: Leaf Spring replacement | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,463 Likes: 12 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,463 Likes: 12 | I don't see a fracture; just the end of the eye metal. Is the leaf spring metal actually broken, or is that just a case of the eyebolt blowing through the bottom of the rubber bushing? I wish you would have posted a picture of the other side for comparison.
Serious scale rust corrosion at the rear! Those rear perches use three oddball special bolts too; they're a sort of giant, fine-thread black phosphide-coated sheet metal screw, with pointy conical ends. With so much corrosion, I'm not sure how much cooperation they'll give you if you try to pull them out to clean up that perch. Exact replacements of those bolts are no longer available either, (I tried...) so be cautious with them.
Every time I've seen those rear shackles removed on a vehicle with substantial mileage, the little bushings holes have been elongated.
