Bit of an update on CB system in that I ditched the side ball mount and 102" antennae as I could not come to grips of drilling 4 holes through sheet metal to mount base. Instead I took a more conservative approach and installed a Firestik door jam base bracket installed with rear doors and an adjustable 3' Firestik antennae. Used a fish tape to route CB coax through inside gutter from front to rear. To finish and ability of use I await a SWR meter to adjust the antennae as to not damage the CB unit. For secure mounting of the bracket I bent the end to allow use of 4 screws, otherwise only 2 would have been possible. Everything sits well with satisfactory clearance.

I never thought of that. Looks like a great way to mount the antenna. Nice work.

While driving, I generally notice how bare the a-pillars are as compared to the now padded dash and overhead console. So, I decided to resolve that issue. Enjoy.

[Linked Image]

Started out with a-pillar trim from a junked mid 80's Dodge. My 79 did not have any trim along a-pillar nor any holes to indicate there ever was. Fabric was pulled from that same junked 70's Chevy conversion van that I got the diamond stitch fabric for dash and overhead console.

I separated the outer fabric and the back padding. Traced trim on padding then cut.

Fit, cut, fit, cut, glue. Did not think one layer of padding was plush enough so I cut another strip to glue over the initial padding against the trim.

Glued fabric to the back of a-pillar, then wrapped fabric to glue to opposite end.

Let glue set, then back and fourth test fitting and appropriately cutting. Had some brown buttons that was applied once trim was mounted to a-pillar.

Not too bad in my opinion. On to the next project...
