Hey guys FYI. I returned from San Diego this Monday. What a trip. After leaving Chicago in the 20's, I arrived to nice 70 degree weather in San Diego. Ah man. I partied my ass off for a few days then decided to hit the junkyards. I called ABT and they told me that they did have any 70's era Chevy vans but did have an 80's conversion van. So I said what the hell, I'll stop by.
To my amazement I saw this!
Unfortunately it wasn't for sale and was in for service but I took some pics anyhow. The owner had a bumper sticker that read "Jimmy free saved my life" and there was a blog associated. I check out the blog and the dude seemed cool, so I sent him an email to go out for beer but I didn't hear anything. Man I could have scored some parts off it, specifically the round headlight. They're hard to come by.
I ended up buying this tray from the conversion van at ABT. Cool dudes.
Anyhow, I ended up visiting Ecology in Oceanside and found several van, including two 78's and some 80's era Ford van that were set up pretty tough for camping. Tons of parts there.
This guy was parked outside.
I scored some parts off this 78 Chevy after borrowing tools and finding some there.
The bubble window on the left side was in top nick but I couldn't take it home. Sucks.
Here's an interior shot of the burgundy/grey Chevy. It has a rear ac unit that someone might be interested in. I wanted it so bad! Someone should take it out and send it to me. I'll pay!
Here are the parts I scored for $38.
Anyhow, thanks for the leads guys I really appreciate it and thought I'd provide a follow up. I'll be back out that way permanently this year so hopefully I see some of you guys around.
