Hi guys, sorry for hitting you with more questions but here's my problem...

I've discovered some cracks on my 462624 heads (shock horror) and I want to replace them with a low cost aluminium option. My vehicle is an RV so I'm not looking for high performance. But I am looking for a low budget means of getting my rv back on the road. So I'm checking ebay, and a guy in the UK is selling a set of aluminium "Patriot style" sbc350 heads, angled plugs. The price is right and the cost of shipping is ok. My problem is I don't know if these will work for me? So I know they are 350 heads and will need some holes drilled for the steam ports, I'm ok with that. What I don't have a clue about is combustion chamber sizes, inlet & exhaust valve sizes, intake runner, exhaust runner, etc. I don't know what my 462624 heads are so I don't know what I need, or what gains or losses I could encounter if I bought and fitted the heads from ebay.

If I buy the set on ebay and drill the steam holes, will they work for me? What other information do I need to consider? I will need to buy & fit valves too as the listed heads are supplied bare.

Here is the ebay listing -

I measured the diameter of my valves. I've got 1.725 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves fitted to my heads. After a bit of internet searching, I believe these 462624 heads have 76cc combustion chambers?

Anybody want to skool me on cylinder heads?

Of course, option B may be to re-use my heads and hope the crack doesn't propagate any further across the head...

Not sure if you can see the crack but here is a photo -

Agreed, the cracked heads are shot. They could be fixed, but not worth the expense that would be involved. . . .
The aluminum heads will be fine for you. Sorry I do not under stand heads better so I can help SCHOOL you on them, but there are a lot of smart guys here who are happy to share knowlege, and I am sure they will be along some time soon, some of them with more information than you want ! lol

You are running a 400 small block I take it. the 624 castings are 76 cc. If you go to the aluminum heads they are probably 64 cc. Do your homework. If you run the 64 cc heads your compression will go up a full point. better run 93 octane all the time.
Vans are heavy and will ping much easier than a car.
BUT !!! the 400 cubic inch will love the bigger , better flowing heads. Stock or not. Try to run a coolant crossover tube in the rear of the intake.
my opinion. Steve if they offer them in 68 or 72 cc buy the bigger chamber heads
