Hi Group, I've got a 74 GMC G10. I'm looking at doing a few things. Does anyone have a compatible list for what Tilt Columns will work? Also I have read a lot about what is available for lowering the 74 G10. Will C10 stuff work on the front? I have 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. What are my options for the rear? I've looked around but no real concrete answers. Thanks in advance for your help. Dave...

Sure its not 5x5 pattern? I thought all the g vans with 5 lugs were 5x5. I could be wrong.

There is a recent thread that discusses using pickup front end parts on G vans. However, I havent heard anyone give a definitive answer on what works. I know some G van changes were made around 1984. This might make newer columns different from yours. Also, you need to consider the electrical compatibility of items on the column. Like ign switch, high beam switch, hazard switch, horn, turn signals, windshield wipers/sprayer, and possibly cruise control. I know your 1974 doesnt have some of these items but they may be on one you are retrofitting from a newer van. I have a column from a 2001 Express van in my 1992 and it only required minor changes to physically mount up.

Gonna watch this thread closely - just picked up a 77 and want to swap in column that has tilt, is meant for 4 spd auto, and if I can work int wipers in there that'd be awesome too - will keep ya posted on what I find

Just fyi, almost allll of the gm columns are interchangeable to some extent which is why they are so popular with hot rodders and off roaders smile

Best bet on the column would be to give the guys at ididit a call and tell them what you're looking for.

That way you don't have to guess at anything, it will all be plug and play, tons less headache, AND it wall all be brand spanking new.

No, early G10's had the same bolt pattern as GM passenger cars. I had a friend who used 70-91 Camaro front end parts (and rear) on his G10

You can use a 71 to 81 tilt column in your van and it will be a direct bolt in but there is a slight wiring harness change and here is the adapter for that change. Harness adapter

I'm not sure when the change was made or why but I have seen these two style plugs (flat and curved) run interference a few times and just recently found this adapter. It could even be a tilt / non tilt difference but I would get your column 1st and save this web link for reference.

I have also heard about this 5 X 4.75 on earlier G vans (71, 72, 73, 74 ish) but I've only parted out 76 and newer so I can't confirm this.

And yes C 10 pickup AND suburban suspension is compatible with our G vans... spindles anyway.

Here is the 700R-4 PRND321 that you will have to purchase if you want this column to accurately indicate your 4 speed automatic trans. You don't have to have this but it is nice and it does complete the 700R4 install. 700R4 indicator
Please note this indicator says *FOR USE WITH IDIDIT TILT COLUMN SHIFT COLUMNS* AND I don't think the 71-81 tilt column has the throw in the linkage to bring the 700R4 into 1st gear.
