You can salvage quite a bit from the rusty van. Pretty much everything will interchange between all 1975-1991 Ford vans. Find a gently used 91 cargo van with a 300 six cylinder, AC, and an AOD then transfer al the vintage goodies to it. Cruise in style while getting over 20 MPG on the highway.

That one patch of rust isn't too bad. Heck, if you have a buddy who can weld or you have the time to do it yourself it might not be that bad to repair.

I wouldn't let two photos, sent to you, be the final word. Give the van a good inspection, take pics and share them with us. Give it some thought. I also agree with Reed, most anything can be fixed on these old vans. If I get "High Roller" for the intention of salvaging parts and discover that she is fixable, I doubt i'd have the heart to pull her apart. I know what you mean about "personifying", I am the same way. I "rescued" my '73 Ford "Hobo Hotel" for the same reasons. It sat forlorn behind a gas station for years, abandoned and rusting away. It was so ugly, I actually felt sorry for it. My wife thought I was nuts! Glad to know I'm not the only one! | | | Re: Thinking about buying this van, any input? | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 Maniac | Maniac Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 | 351s get 12-14 on a good day with conservative driving. I once had my 351 segt up to get around 20 MPG on the highway if I kept my foot out of it, but I am pretty sure that it was running so lean that it ate the top piston rings. I had to rebuild the engine shortly after those MPG figures were obtained. The same motor now lives in my 89 Ford and is fuel injected and mated to an AOD trans. If I drive conservatively and use the overdrive judiciously I can get 14-15 MPG on the highway. I still need to do some tuning though.

You're killin my V8 dream man! :-P ..it was running so lean that it ate the top piston rings. I had to rebuild the engine shortly after those MPG figures were obtained. I had no idea running lean would cause damage. - Diamond Bubble Porthole window x 2 - Pop out side window x 2 - Rear Cargo door Bubble window x 2 - bubble sunroof - roof vent - windshield visor - roof spoiler - luggage rack - gold colored diamond plate running boards - chin spoiler - whip antenna - ladder - 4 slot rims
I'm just curious what it would cost me to piece together that list to put on another van.
