I have 3.55 in my 99, but no comparison between the 5.4 in that with the 4R100 and a 73 302 with a C-4, that modular engine is a beast, I towed a convertible Mustang across the mountains of TN and NC, I had trouble holding it back, there is a long pull after the rest stop, I was just going with the flow, then realized it was getting faster, passing everyone on the steepest part, no way the old van can compete. Reed if I had my way I'd get a gearvender unit to go with the 3.73 for some HWY runs, I hoped to find a center to just swap in, but looks like the only option is to have mine regeared, mids are scarce. I plan to go no bigger than 6' x 12' but the deals at the lot near here, they are the tall ones, I wanted to avoid going higher than the van for obvious reasons, weight shouldn't really be an issue, as it'll be with the bare necessities, toilet, sink, and bed.

Update...Well, I did the Hot Rod Power Tour back in June. I ran the 2.75 gears and it was great. 3500 miles round trip. Loved cruising at 75 mph from Wisconsin back to Florida. Put the 3.50 posi back in when I got home. For me, the 3.50 makes engine much happier around town and can cruise at 60 at 2500 rpms. Ideally, I'd go overdrive with 3.73s, but not realistically gonna happen. Eventually, I may re-cam engine to lower power band. Currently, max torque is about 3300 rpms. While the big block is FUN, I'd probably go with late model 302 efi and overdrive for all around driveability. I want to start using it for camping and less hotrodding, however, I do want to get some pictures and video running down the dragstrip...BEFORE adding more weight...lol. Think a 56 panel truck would be cool on the strip, smoking tires...
