Please don't.

They do not help you see better, the glare for drivers on the other side of the road is profound. I get filled with rage when blinded by some fool with HID bulbs in halogen housings. Thankfully they are starting cracking down on illegal lighting here.

HID bulbs in halogen housings simply cannot be aimed. They are illegal and dangerous. Flooding the foreground with light actually reduces the diameter of the drivers pupil, allowing in less light, so that they cannot see properly, but they think they can.

If you want to see better at night make sure battery charging voltages are making it to you current sealed headlamps with a new relayed harness, and are aimed correctly.

GE nighthawks are the best sealed beam available, Sylvania is junk. Any halogen light claiming whiter or bluish light are junk. The bulb will have blue tint which reduces light output so the filament is overdriven to meet minimum lumen output standards, and fails prematurely

If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket get some Cibie housings and put some Osram bulbs in them along with the relayed harness.

If you've got a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket check out the JW speaker LED replacement units. These have a very good Beam pattern and light output, but are white not blue, and they will help you see much better at night. No relayed harness upgrade needed for these as they consume less power.

DON'T DO IT !

I can tell you that in Oklahoma City, if you have "Blue" ( or any other color besides white ) headlights, you car/truck WILL be impounded ( unless you can change them to white right there ).

They are also cracking down on the kits that put "HID" bulbs in NON-HID housings. These are the kits that put HID lights in place of a H-4 bulb, and are usually the cheapest to purchase ( for a reason ).

From what I can tell, the only legal ones are the factory installed lights, OR the Projector Beam kits.

DON"T DO IT!!!!!

I too, really get upset with those lights on the highway. They are very prominent at night and we do a lot of night driving. Seems each time I see them, I am blinded for a period of time. Please thing of the other drivers on the road...or, at least those in a VAN!

yeah

Daniel Stern is a friend of mine. He has the best products on the market and has helped me with lighting on my vehicles. What has been said above is true- if you are trying to build a show van and want blue lights only for the look and not for real lighting conditions, then put whatever you want in the headlamps. However, if you actually drive your van on the street, the best upgrade path is (1) GE Nighthawks, (2) add relays and clean the grounds, then (3) pony up the big bucks and order the Cibies from Daniel Stern.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

You guys said what I was going to say (except about the GE Nighthawks, thanks for that), but you got here first.
I'm glad that there's a combined voice of reason here.

Get a pair of projector headlights with H4 bulbs (not HID), they sell ones that have blue LED rings around the perimeter of the lamp that you can put on a switch so you can have a soft blue light OR bright white, without blinding other motorists.

Be very cautious about any Ebay headlamp offerings, especially those with colored DRLs inside them. These E bay offerings have extremely poor light patterns, and have plastic lenses which can break easily, as well as getting all cloudy in UV light in a short period of time.

The GE Nighthawks sealed beam 6054's being fed 14+ volts have a very respectable output. I used to have nearly 3 volts drop on my original headlamp circuit, but made a 12 awg harness with relays triggered by the original wiring harness, now have less than 0.3 volts drop on the circuit, and my headlamps are brighter and put more light were desired than 85% of the vehicles that pull up next to me at a redlight at night.

The Cibies are simply the best, Bosches are no longer available, but were very good, the Hella 6054 offerings have too much spread between high and low beam, adjust the low beam properly and the high beams shoot up into the trees, adjust the high beams correctly and the low beams hit the ground too close to the Van. There are some AutoPal, made in india, 6054s that are affordable, but all reports is that they have a very poor beam pattern, and the light bulbs they might come with are blue tinted junk, but these are better than the cheapo E bay offerings.

The JW Speaker LED offerings are awesome, but expensive. TruckLite sells some drop in LED headlamps which are more economical but do not perform as well as the JW speaker, but likely still better than halogen offerings. There is some lower priced Trucklite clones coming into the market, that might or might not be very good, I do not know.

Just the relay harness alone should increase output by a good 30 to 50% on whatever bulbs you have in there now. If you can reach the h4 plugs on the sealed beams, take voltage readings on high and low beams and compare to battery voltage. The original headlamp circuit is way too long, way too thin, and has too many voltage dropping connections to properly feed headlamps the voltage they desire.

Upgrading this headlamp wiring harness kind of sounds complicated, but it is not, and the results are impressive.

Sealed beams come in only so many sizes. 6054s are what your chevy takes, same as my dodge.

thank you wrcsixeight, ill look into headlights, and the wiring, though i think that would be a weekend project for me cause am not very smart when it comes to automotive wiring, though am curious, if theres a wiring harness that is 10awg? so rather than cut and splice just replace it with stronger harness?

Heck it was a weekend project for me and I'm fairly good with wiring but I'm also anal retentive.

No need to cut out any old wiring, hardest part is to find the wires that goto the original high and low beams near the firewall and use these to trigger the relays. I still have the original h4 plugs and they are still functional.

10awg is overkill, unless you are putting illegal 100watt bulbs into Cibie housings.

I'd really recommend avoiding the ebay housings. If you want some Blue bling up front, put some blue LEDs up front you can turn off with a manual switch.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JM41TVE?psc=1

Those draw so little you can keep them on all night without worry about the battery.

Forward lighting is a safety device and should not be made dangerous with halfass housings that do not meet any lighting standards as to beam pattern.

I saw a civic 'tuner' vehicle with fart can exhaust pulled over last night that had the obnoxious blue HID kit in halogen housings. Tuner driver will now have to return to stock and be out a considerable sum.

I had been blinded by this fool more than once and gave him the Nelson "ha Hawwww" as I drove by.

Good tip on those Ebay lights wrcsixeight. I figured, for 50 bucks they were worth trying but I think I'll save that $ and put it towards some LED strips or something. A few guys in my club run the halogen "halo" kits with no problems, but their vans are not daily drivers and are mostly driven in daylight.
