They do not help you see better, the glare for drivers on the other side of the road is profound. I get filled with rage when blinded by some fool with HID bulbs in halogen housings. Thankfully they are starting cracking down on illegal lighting here. HID bulbs in halogen housings simply cannot be aimed. They are illegal and dangerous. Flooding the foreground with light actually reduces the diameter of the drivers pupil, allowing in less light, so that they cannot see properly, but they think they can. If you want to see better at night make sure battery charging voltages are making it to you current sealed headlamps with a new relayed harness, and are aimed correctly. GE nighthawks are the best sealed beam available, Sylvania is junk. Any halogen light claiming whiter or bluish light are junk. The bulb will have blue tint which reduces light output so the filament is overdriven to meet minimum lumen output standards, and fails prematurely If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket get some Cibie housings and put some Osram bulbs in them along with the relayed harness. If you've got a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket check out the JW speaker LED replacement units. These have a very good Beam pattern and light output, but are white not blue, and they will help you see much better at night. No relayed harness upgrade needed for these as they consume less power. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/lights/light_color/light_color.html | | | Re: I want blue headlights | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 Festerus Vannimus | Festerus Vannimus Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 | DON'T DO IT !
I can tell you that in Oklahoma City, if you have "Blue" ( or any other color besides white ) headlights, you car/truck WILL be impounded ( unless you can change them to white right there ).
They are also cracking down on the kits that put "HID" bulbs in NON-HID housings. These are the kits that put HID lights in place of a H-4 bulb, and are usually the cheapest to purchase ( for a reason ).
From what I can tell, the only legal ones are the factory installed lights, OR the Projector Beam kits.

I too, really get upset with those lights on the highway. They are very prominent at night and we do a lot of night driving. Seems each time I see them, I am blinded for a period of time. Please thing of the other drivers on the road...or, at least those in a VAN!

He has the best products on the market and has helped me with lighting on my vehicles. What has been said above is true- if you are trying to build a show van and want blue lights only for the look and not for real lighting conditions, then put whatever you want in the headlamps. However, if you actually drive your van on the street, the best upgrade path is (1) GE Nighthawks, (2) add relays and clean the grounds, then (3) pony up the big bucks and order the Cibies from Daniel Stern.
Windows- they're what make a van worth owning! | | | Re: I want blue headlights | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 4,805 Likes: 123 Uncle Rust N Dents | Uncle Rust N Dents Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 4,805 Likes: 123 | You guys said what I was going to say (except about the GE Nighthawks, thanks for that), but you got here first. I'm glad that there's a combined voice of reason here. | | | Re: I want blue headlights | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 1,475 old hand | old hand Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 1,475 | Get a pair of projector headlights with H4 bulbs (not HID), they sell ones that have blue LED rings around the perimeter of the lamp that you can put on a switch so you can have a soft blue light OR bright white, without blinding other motorists.
