I don't know about Ford & Dodge/Plymouth shorty vans but Chevy/GMC ones are hard find (Ontario/Quebec)especially if you want a 70's shorty van. It took me about 3-4 years for me to find a half way decent 70's Chevy Van shorty van. I almost lost it to another guy who was coming to buy it. It was customized by the owner and got the usual stuff done to it, portal window (Heart), sun visor, big rear van wing, rear van air scoop, sun roof, upholstered dash (he stapled down diamond tuff Naugahyde to the dash with those giant tacks)it was a total nightmare once I started to strip out the van. Rust...rust ...rust. and what from?.... a sun roof that wasn't measured right and leaked, visor and van flares just put in with wood screws. Grrrr... If your looking for a van with all the work done be careful the majority of the vans back in the day where customized not by professional Van shops but by your average young guy back in the day. Some new how to do a quality job but most didn't have a clue another reason they rotted away or caught on fire. Best bets out there are the Chevy Van 71-79 if you can find one then 80- 89's vans. The 90-95 before GM Changed to the Express Van in 1996. Good Luck on your Shorty search.

If I don't find a shorty maybe an early 80's gmc might be in order. Oh ya ,doc 2% I'm from the ottawa area. Are conversion vans with the extended roof very desirable in the street scene?

I don't know about conversion vans in the street scene... Where I'm from, for every cargo van I found, I found like 20 conversion vans that were cheaper and in better shape, so I'm guessing the demand was low. I thought they were nice, but they weren't for me (too many big windows). Good luck on your search and try to enjoy it. | | | Re: Hello from Ontario, Canada | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 12,898 Vanner | Vanner Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 12,898 | Still have some active vanners in Ottawa Area from OVV......When I go there, Whispers is my home ;)and the Prescott !

I'm building an 88 Ford in the 70's style now, but it will be a while before it's ready, so the 89 keeps us truckin until then.

Highway star, your van is very cool.
