yeah I spoke with some FVC dudes and they seem cool and normal and I hope to attend one soon. The weird part comes from other people on here I wont entertain that again or them anymore.
The question or comment was whether Puzzelle was treated with class and respect .
What are your honest opinions of that?
As far as self cleaning goes, if you wash your hands too much, you will get sick
Same type of theory is involved here, "washing" out anyone who doesnt conform is cultlike
dont you agree?
And as far as me on video i have some real entertaning vids

Puzzele, I was at the public show and met you and your lovely girlfriend. I wanted very much for you to be able to get in and mingle, but I just did not feel comfortable with "sneaking" you in.

Here's a thought: Gate fee is good for a van and 2 people. I know I usually travel with my club, but as far as my van it's just me, leaving an extra seat. Theoretically you could arrange to meet up with someone who is going and "hitch a ride" with them. Extra people are just $10 usually, so your girlfriend could come too, or ride with another solo vanner. Ideally you would bring a tent and a cooler so you would have a place to sleep and keep your food/beverages. Honestly I'm surprised nobody offered to do this for you before. Last year my van had transmission problems that prevented me from driving it to a run (Keystone Madness in this case), so I rode up with a club member who was going anyway. Admittance for me was virtually free (covered by the gate fee which had already been paid), I just had to bring food and beer and a tent. Maybe something to consider.

It's not about being "exclusive" necessarily, just about keeping the vibe right. It's not like we are asking people to think, act, or behave a certain way, just that they come in a van if they want to get in.

I will offer now. Puzzele, if you are thinking of coming to an event and cannot make it in your van, let me know and if I am going you are welcome to ride along in my van. Gas and gate fee will be covered (for you, just $10 if you want to bring someone). Hope this does not discourage you from getting back into vanning.

Regards,
Matt

people that come to the PUBLIC show are never allowed into the grounds, it is after all, a private event.

I have thousands of dollars of computer equipment, camera gear, etc at my site, and I have faith in my fellow vanners that it will be there when I wake up, or come back from a walkabout. having the public freely walking around introduces an unknown element that I don't trust, and I would be forced to never leave my site, or to pack it all into my van and lock it anytime I wanted to go take a piss.

you could have parked at the gate, paid full price, and entered the grounds, there were more than a few vanners that did that who were unable to come in a van for whatever reason.

If you show up at the gate and say you are a friend of so and so, and are just visiting for the afternoon, and they come vouch for you, you can usually get in. I have had friends come visit me that way, the responsibility is then on me for their behavior and to escort them around, and to make sure they leave on time.

if someone shows up representing some form of media, they are allowed in. we had several there this past week, but just being in a car club doesn't cut it.

there were people that came in non-vans, that didn't like the ground rules and raised a stink about it, I'm sorry, but the nats has rules for a reason.

Do I notice a trend?

The people want access minus a van are the same ones who have not attended a van run for many years, if at all.

"I want in, change the rules so I don't have to bring a van, it will be good for vanning!"

Well, I can tell you that no, it will not be good for vanning. Back in the 80's, when interest in vanning was waning, my club (Gratiot Street Vans) decided to accept pickups into the club, and changed the name to Gratiot Custom Trucks.

While we boosted membership, and some runs would let pickups in, they did not feel welcome. Eventually, the club folded.

VanFest in Ontario is the only run I am personally aware of that has successfully combined pickups and vans, and had a public show. However- even VanFest does not allow the public to wander the campsite area.

Each and every eVANt we attend is a family reunion. The Nationals is the largest family reunion. We spend our time with precious VANs and precious souls dedicated to those precious VANs. We look out for each other and respect each in a way I have never experienced in another 'group' setting. We have our values and we hold them close to our hearts. We have been burned in the past, even as recently as this year, however; we stand together and put it in the past and move on doing what Vanners do. We play together, build our VANs together, we teach/learn with each other, work together to put on eVANts, we donate to charity, we share what we have with each other with no count of 'you owe me, I owe you' all is given freely. The trust we have built after all these decades cannot be broken and we know when something isn't right by some kind of natural sense.

We love our VANs, but we also love each other...and we truly know each other in life, not only on vanning.com or one of facebook's many pages. We encourage people to come and know us....however, as with any group's eVANt, you need to follow the rules in place in order to participate in the eVANt. This is the same at beer festivals, food fights, concerts, even the movie theater down the street says, 'don't scream fire, unless real'. We only ask you have a VAN and come spend time with us in person and then you will either get it....or not understand Vanning.

I think we should show all our friends the new movie..Vannin' the Documentary. Little Cabin films truly caught the spirit of Vanning...and they now have their club and come to many eVANts. New, young, talented, and they love the lifestyle. I thank Andrew and Nick for this new tool to explain to the world who and what we are. So, those of you wondering what vanning is on the inside, for a small fee can get a copy of the movie...Vannin' - The Movie on facebook, or attend a showing of it as it travels the country as a proper Vanner does!

Cherish your friends!
HUGGS to all!

When the van decides to go, just hitch a ride like a true hobo...

We (usually) drive a minimum of 12 hours in an early every year to get to this event. It is a bizarre family reunion, and thank God for that. Even those who go for the first time feel like family by the time they leave. If however, trucks and SUVs and Hondas and Chevy Volts and whatever were allowed to come in an park with us, I think many would start to leave their vans at home. I, for one, may decide to just stay home.

Having flown in for the first time this year, I didn't feel l "earned" it, the way we usually do. Drive a van for hours and hours, then roll through the gate. THAT is the feeling I live for each summer. "I [censored] made it". I got in my van and got here and so did all my friends.

We did get to drive Munz' early back to Jersey on Sunday, so I felt I partially earned it. Thank you again, Chris!
