If that does not work. The place I got my replacement tank has new ones I just have to remember where and what the name was They did work perfect. I think it was Spectra Fuel tanks. Hope that helps. They did OK by me, good stuff.

I did and they had three. not a bad price at sixty bucks. but new old stock is better. They can do a nation wide search. Worth at try.

That's why the gauge went up when you connected those wires.
Earlier tanks was grounded by a grounding clip, from the elbow of the sending unit to the steel portion of the fuel line. I think they went to a ground wire in '75 or '76. This applies to the steel tanks.
The only sending unit (and tank) still available is for the '77 vans. Earlier years were different and obsolete. Only source now is NOS. | | | Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit - 76 Dodge | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 3,113 Likes: 2 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: May 2006 Posts: 3,113 Likes: 2 | hey bootsy100, my 75 looks just like yours. where you have that new lookin clamp is about where mine has an alligator clip clamped onto the fuel line then its connected to another wire that goes inside my van by the passenger side tail light. i have my interior put together now so i can't see exactly where it goes to but i remember when i first got the van i had to mess around with that wire because sometimes the gauge would fail. | | | Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit - 76 Dodge | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 46 newbie | newbie Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 46 | it must be grounded to another wire. The sending wire is as mentioned above:light blue near passenger tail light. I that wire to the sending unit wire then tried grounding off the metal fuel line (with alligator clip) to the chassis as well as other points but with no luck. gonna have to pull the unit and put meter on it I guess. wish it was as easy as just grounding it. bummer... thx all for the comments though. | | | Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit - 76 Dodge | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 793 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 793 | Just realized I never replied to this post that I originated. My float had a crack in it and was taking on fuel - thus, it was always sunk to the bottom and showing on "E". A new float from summit for like $6, and a new cork gasket ( i cut myself from a sheet of cork ) and a ton of gasket sealer (screws into plastic tank) and we're back to as good as new.
Thanks for all the tips & hope the others here find resolution to their questions as well! | | | Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit - 76 Dodge | Joined: May 2015 Posts: 27 newbie | newbie Joined: May 2015 Posts: 27 | I know this I an old thread but it helped me a lot while looking for a fuel sender for a '77 Dodge 36 gal tank. Mine works but it is original and I am not sure for how long. I have found several places online that will rebuild it, and I think I will do that when my original one fails. That being said I did find a NOS sender. http://www.collectorsautosupply.com. part number is 4075096 Trouble is, he wants $270 for it. If you need it, there it is. | | | Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit - 76 Dodge | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 3,473 Likes: 1 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 3,473 Likes: 1 | Try spectra they make aftermarket tanks and sending units i think ! http://www.spectrapremium.com/products/fuel_tank.htmlAlso I found this http://www.jcwhitney.com/1977-1980-...uel-pump/p2005708d51427y1977-1980j1.jcwxSo spectra does have them just call them at spectra and see what they say. The second place i posted is JC Whitney and that was just for a 23 gallon stock tank. But call spectra and ask, chances are good if they make one they have them both. If not you also have the option to upgrade to a new tank and modern sending unit. i have been under all of them and they are very similar hookups. You might have to cut or make a line or two shorter or longer but not a major task the roll over valve on top will always be in the same place.
