Lots of error codes need help please! | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 9 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 9 | Hey guys I have a 1992 Dodge B350 maxi wagon with the 5.9 engine. My van has sat for about 6 weeks without being touched due to me being out of town. I started it today when I got home and saw the check engine light on. I retrieved the codes and found out what they mean but have no idea on a couple of them as to how to fix the issue. Any help is appreciated. The codes I am having issues with are:
CODE 37: Torque converter clutch solenoid CKT or park/neutral switch failure
CODE 41: Generator field not switching properly
CODE 15 No vehicle speed sensor signal
CODE 17 Closed loop temp not reached or engine cold too long
CODE 42 Fuel pump relay control ckt, Auto shutdown relay control ckt, No ASD relay output voltage at PCM, Fuel level sending unit volts out of range, Fuel level unit No change over miles
Codes 15, 17, and 42 make sense, I'm sure the sensors just need replaced as none of those gauges work. The others are the ones I'm not quite sure on.... As stated before any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Code 41: get your alternator checked at a parts store.

This engine was a 5.7 hemi but with all the sensors these use it might be a problem that can cross engine designs? | | | Re: Lots of error codes need help please! | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 2,847 Likes: 42 veteran | veteran Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 2,847 Likes: 42 | That is a lot of codes
Whenever weird electrical issues rear their ugly head, one should eliminate bad grounds as a culprit before investigating further.
Battery to engine battery to firewall frame to engine.
The frame to engine ground might not exist, if not, add one.
All grounds should be removed made shiny and retightened.
Also look closely at the wiring leading into the engine computer. often the wires are "probed' by techs. the pierced insulation allows in moisture, corrosion is not far behind.
With the ignition turned to on, not start, engine not running, try wiggling the wires at the engine computer, see if you hear relays clicking on and off.
Chafed wires leading to my transmission destroyed my engine computer. Definitely check them as Reed states.
After cleaning grounds and battery terminals, see what codes re-appear | | | Re: Lots of error codes need help please! | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 9 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 9 | New development... I was driving to the parts store to have the alternator checked and it died on the road. the radio/power outlet and ignition all shut off. it wouldn't do anything but let the flashers work. I tried the ignition switch and it wouldn't even turn over. is this something that could be caused by the neutral safety switch? or would the grounds be more likely the culprit? It ran fine until it decided to die.... | | | Re: Lots of error codes need help please! | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 Festerus Vannimus | Festerus Vannimus Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 | I would check those grounds first and foremost, no ground, no complete citcuit , no complete circuit, no running engine. . .
