hey guys,

my 318 is kind of tired so I picked up a good one to put in. I was just wondering if there is a walk through out there that I can read up on just to make sure I dont hit any potential snags which doing the swap. I want it to go as smooth as possible. thanks!

The factory service manual has a great section about removing and reinstalling the engine.

Otherwise, just think it through. Disconnect anything that attaches the motor to the rest of the van (exhaust, cooling lines, electrical lines, power steering lines, transmission), remove anything in the way of puling the engine out (decide if you are ging through the passenger door or out the front- I go out the front), unbolt the motor mounts, and pull it out.

Reuse the oil pan and oil pump pickup from your original motor, installation is the reverse of removal.

I had a shop swap out small blocks in my 75 Dodge and they swapped it out through the passenger door.

I never wanted to run the risk of dribbling fluids all over the interior.

I always take out the radiator , really easyunless you have a/c them you sacrifice the freon. just straight out and back in just the way you pulled it out. Here are a few pix of Me and My wife taking out the 6 and in with the 8. Not to hard just one step at a time, take you time and do it right.
