We (wife and myself) have been on this site for two years now, have spent most of my time rebuilding the van. She's (the van, lol)is at the point where we can use it a lot more. We went to the freeze out this February and had a great time. We also travel to St, Pete Fl several times a year, and found a neat cruise in spot at a local Biff Burger.

We would like to join a local (MD,PA,VA)van club, but want to join one that we would be comfortable with, with people at least similar to us. We have visited several club sites, and haven't seen one yet that gives a flavor of the club. (OK maybe were dense) Don't take that the wrong way, we kinda see ourselves as part of the 2% that is touted here. Were both 60, but act more like 20. Were Pagans (not the motorcycle gang) and free spirited children of the 60/70,s (no were not druggies). So a group with a lot of evangelical Christians is not what we are looking for. Right now were leaning toward the "Performance Vans" out of PA, but I'm not sure that even a "club".

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Aule

I met Catfish, president of the SEVC (Southeast Van Club), and him and his wife Penny are two of the coolest most generous people you can meet. I have only met them once and could tell right away. You could also form your own club with 3 members. Goodluck

You will know when you find the "right" club or just start your own.

Clubs vary a lot. Some have members that are geographically close and meet every month while others are wide spread and don't get together as often. Some have more rules/regulations than others. Just keep going to van runs and meet other vanners. As mentioned above, you'll find the right group to become part of.

PS: I was checking out your van @ Freeze Out.. I dig the right side doors!

What Mutt said.
Doug, all clubs and groups are different and some have differing groups within. Some states have more vanners and multiple clubs/councils. Some, like the SEVC, are small but are spread from Virginia to Louisiana.
Clubs or councils that have members who live close enough to meet regularly can work together more closely to put on truckins, attend car shows and do other fun stuff as a group. Here at Peach State Vans we don't have officers. We're all retired and so laid back that we adjourn the few meetings we have with "Let's eat!" laugh
Attend a bunch of truck-ins and then decide. It really depends on what you want.

(btw thanks Jason, we were trying to be as nice as our hosts, the FVC.)

I'm still here tracking all the comments. Received several PM and I'm not ignoring them just don't know what were doing yet. Will check them all out may join more than one!

Quoting Mutt:
"PS: I was checking out your van @ Freeze Out.. I dig the right side doors!"

That was the courtesy of a John Deer tractor that decided to try and take my wife into a corn field with him. He crushed the passenger door and the front side door. Those were the only replacements I could find. If he would have asked nicely she probably would have joined him without a fuss...LOL.

Hello Aule,

if this is the Biff Burger with the BelAir on the roof, than it's good to hear, that they are still alive yay

I found them in 1993 during my first visit to Florida, as I read the newspaper in the morning. Their was a nice article, and so I searched and found the Burger. I was their at the evening, when the local Hot Rod Club meets, and had a nice chat with the president (at that time), since he knew about the streetrules in Germnay (was stationed over here for some time).

In 2006, I was again their and had also a great time.

Van clubs are like the vans themselves. You will find one that fits your wants and needs. Oftentimes they find you. You go to a run, park, grab a drink, and wander around. The people at the next site or across the road have a bunch of food on the grill, or chips and snacks, or a blender. Maybe they also own a Dodge similar to yours. Introductions, sharing, conversations, and an invite to a meeting follow.

You may or may not go to that meeting, but you see them again at another run. Recognition, more conversation, agree to meet and camp together at a future run. A friendship is formed, and you join their club.

Or, as in my case, a club found me. My ex and I went to a huge car show, saw a bunch of vans and a bunch of vanners having a lot of fun. We thought a van would be a cool way to travel and camp, so we bought one a couple months later. The next month, a guy walks into my work wearing a club jacket. We talked, he invited me to a meeting, I went, and the rest as they say, is history. That meeting was in Feb. 1974, and I have been a member of Midwest Vans Ltd. ever since.

You will find great people, make lifelong friends, and deal with some buttheads. That's life, so enjoy the ride. Welcome to vanning, and hope to meet you at a run soon! The Nationals are right up the road this year!

We have had more people join our club and became Vanners...we are a non smoking, illicit drug free club that drinks a lot on weekends....

As On The Road ( Howard ) says, go to an eVANT and look for a 2% fit...

I think so too. Sad that the BelAir is gone (was a 57), but a nice place anyway.

Here is what I always to the newer people....
get out to some eVANts (they are mostly all listed on here) and meet the people. Spend some time with a bunch of different clubs for a while and see who you fit in with the best. That is truly the only way to find a group you would be happy with.

Each club has a different make up and personality. Some have rules and meetings with dues, some have none of that. Until you meet the people within the group, really no way of knowing. Some have rules about new members, others don't...all different.

There is nothing wrong with coming to an eVANt or a few as an independent Vanner and learning about us. And, it would be better to have some freedom while looking for a club fit that suits you. It also saves a lot of grief from joining up with the wrong group right away.

Performance is a wonderful group..I call them mine, they call me theirs, but I don't get to vote or pay dues...we are family. There are many good groups out there to choose from and you are in a great area to do so!

Good luck to you and hope to meet you soon in person!

Cherish your friends!
HUGGS to all!
