OK.... so I installed the old style grill, old style tail lights and my bubble windows. Now its time for paint and I want peoples opinions. I am for sure doing the roof white.
(I live in southern florida.) and I stopped in to the PPG paint shop today and told them I wanted a non metallic Light color that was soft.
Like a light yellow or light blue exc... I saw a picture of an early 70s van with a girl on a Yamaha bike in front of it. It was kind of like a grabber orange like on a 69 boss car.
The PPG rep showed me an orange that kinda looks like a creamsicle. He said he has seen it on custom cars and said it looks killer. So I'm thinking the white on the roof with the creamsicle orange on the sides. What do you think?[Linked Image]

Cool man! There's a guy around here with a fat-fendered old pickup painted creamsicle and tan, and calls the truck "Creamsicle". It looks amazing, so I have to agree with your paint guy. It will look killer!

Damn ! I HATE picking colors! You don't know how many times I have made my decision standing at the counter of the paint store. Keep the opinions coming ! Thanks!

Leave it white. Add some pin stripes if you really want to snazz it up.

If you decide that you don't like the van with color after all, white is the least expensive of all paint colors so you can always paint it back. Personally, I like some color, but hey, it's your ride brother. Do it your way! Most of all, make sure you're having fun!

I'm not a fan of white. Too plain and boring, but I do like the orange idea.

My van was going to be House of Kolor Tangelo Orange (only in a PPG mix, HOK is way too expensive). I changed my mind to a 2012 Toyota/Lexus candy red.

I haven't bought the paint yet, so that may change too (plus the van might be sold). My last van was a 1996 Mustang purple.

I painted a van for a customer that was a PPG color-shifting color. I went green to gold to red, depending on where you were standing. Very expensive.

yeah... The white on my van is shot. It needs new paint for sure. The only thing I don't like about white is that theres a million work vans on the road that are white.
Just want to be different.

Leave it white, paint a mural on the side, side pipes, brown wheel flairs, a light blue furry dash cover, wire wheels, and hydraulics.

The 1980 Dodge B-series van that brought me here. It sat untouched in a garage since 1989! I sold it back to the very same guy who drove it 30 years ago for Mobile radio. Sometimes you just have to put a van where it belongs. Glad to see her getting the love it deserves.

You could always go white then put color on the grill, bumpers and rims. I always like that style, more understated.

I think it looks good white too but agree there are too many service vans in white. The creamsicle orange idea sounds great. Do the roof in cool vanilla. It is Chryslers off white color and would look good with the creamsicle orange. After all, creamsicles are filled with vannilla ice cream.

Ok, I know I'm way late chiming in on this topic, but how about white van with a baby blue metalflake and lace panel roof. That would cut down on paint cost and still give you a killer custom touch to the van.

;)

Color choice is a hard one sometimes. Do what YOU feel. Orange is a cool van color. One thing to think about...orange is a color that will show all the body work and prep defects or mistakes. So good prep is key. Which ever color YOU chose, I am sure it will turn out nice.

I'm going through the same color choice issues. But I have narrowed it down. If I had to chose this minute, I would go with a bright non metallic blue for mine. Wife wants ME to go with orange, too. But I have a blue van and a blue interior and changing colors means a lot of work...door jambs, under the hood, etc. She thinks the orange outside with a blue interior would be cool. ( I have all the materials to do the interior in Levi's denim) I'm not as enthusiastic about the concept. Had considered white with multi-color pattern of some kind. But too much work for a daily driver, and too hard on a tight budget.

creamsicle is a great color , but since your looking to leave the roof white you may want to do the bottom white like a street van have it roll around the fenders flare body lines . Maybe some scallops to break it up , draw a few different ones on paper first . Thats one thing i like to do when comming up with ideas to see what works best you can get a better idea on a drawling .

Orange with a cream color top and maybe some high litghts lower on the van sounds cool.
