I have a 89 E-150 that has a very nice chrome front bumper and will soon have the front air dam repaired and remounted below the front bumper. I would like to add some fog and driving lights to the front of the van, but (a) the air dam will eliminate the possibility of mounting the lights under the bumper and (b) I don't want to drill holes in my pretty chrome bumper.

A while back I saw some eBay auctions for old-style brackets that could clamp onto the bumper and the you can mount the lights to those, but now I can't find those auctions.

Anybody have any suggestions?

YEAH! Thanks! I wonder if these will fit on the top of the bumper between the bumper and the filler panel?

Did they fit on top of the bumper?

Well they clamp up to a half inch, so you'd probably be able to eyeball if they'd fit or not before going out there with a ruler.

You could always mount them hidden behind the grill too.

The 1980 Dodge B-series van that brought me here. It sat untouched in a garage since 1989! I sold it back to the very same guy who drove it 30 years ago for Mobile radio. Sometimes you just have to put a van where it belongs. Glad to see her getting the love it deserves.

I don't want to put the lights behind the grille since that would block the be a,s and kind of defeat the purpose of installing the lights.

I still need to do some more research. Maybe I will track down a simple brush guard and mount driving and fog lights on it.

I think they have ones that will fit in my grill.

Hey Reed, I mounted a set of these http://www.kchilites.com/lights/35-series/3x5-driving-black underneath the bumper on my 89 by just taking out 2 of the bolts holding the air dam on. They really project a nice beam out in front, but their real benefit is the wide beam they project at the sides of the lane. You could always mount a set underneath and a set on top with the clamps. Sorry I don't have any pics to post up right now, but I'll try to get a shot of them soon if you like.

Thanks for the input. The holes in the bottom of the bumper will be filled by the bolts that will be holding the air dam. I am mounting a set of KC fog lights with the short but wide amber beam and a set of vintage KC driving lights with the long pencil beam. I have decided I am going to track down a pair of front bumper guards and mount the fog lights on the bottom with the bolts and put the driving lights on the top with the clamping clips. Now I just need to find some bumper guards.

My air dam is still installed. I just removed two of the air dam bolts and bolted the lights on clamping the air dam along with them. I will try to get a pic posted. I have front and rear bumper guards on my 81 E150 that I am going to put on the 89, but I need new pads for the rears. I saw that LMC Truck has the front pads now, but I haven't had any luck finding them for the rear.

My problem is that the style of air dam I have replaces the small factory air dam and uses the same holes to mount it and it goes flush to the outside bottom of the front bumper. I used to have the small factory air dam and the fog lights using the same bolts.

Cool. Looking forward to seeing how they work out for you. I'd like to see that air dam too. It might be something to look into for my 89.

My air dam is currently uninstalled for damage repair and repainting. I *might* decide to leave it off and sell it later this year, but I need to get it repaired and remounted before make my final decision.

These are from when I had just painted it and installed it the first time:

My only gripe about this fiberglass air dam is it is very vulnerable to damage. I broke it clean off when I parked too close to a snow bank. Not a a happy night.

Damn, Reed, I feel your pain on the fragility of the fiberglass airdams, but you gotta admit, it really does look nice on on that Ford.

In the looks department it gets an A+, but I need durable more than I need good looks. I will try mounting it again and make my mind up then.

Thanks. This is the second Ford van I have had those rims on. I have had the rims for about ten years now and I like them a lot. They need a good polish, though.

Thanks for the compliments. I have actually decided not to use this air dam. it is just too weak for my purposes (daily driving without worry). I have it up for sale if anyone is interested.
