I already replaced the front tie rod ends and have really nice new tires.
Can anyone offer some ideas on what to tackle next? Should I do a steering box rebuild or replace the king pins?
Here in Portland, we have a steering shop that does a steering box rebuild for $250. Anybody ever do that and does anyone know if that includes the king pins or not? | | | Re: 75-91 Ford Steering Seems Loose | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 557 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 557 | Welcome to the site SteveYangPDX ....

On the king pins, I would look into a RV or even a big rig shop as not a lot of shops know king pins.
Best of luck ! Keep us posted !

I have an 89 Ford van that has the same problem yours does- loose and vague steering with a big dead spot in the middle. I have had the entire front suspension and steering linkage rebuilt with Moog components and a rebuilt gearbox from Redhead gear (incidentally, I recommend you get your rebuilt gearbox from Redhead. They upgrade the bushings in the gearbox to a better type so the gearbox won't wear out as fast). I had to take my van to an RV mechanics shop to find someone who was willing to replace the kingpins.
My van still has bad loose steering. I will be taking in to another shopI trust as soon as I get the transmission swapped.
