Not a big fan of Cresent wrenches.
The bolt is bigger than the 12 inch wrench I do have here.
I am into this this far might as well replace the whole works.
water pump clutch fan and the pulley.less than 100 bucks
IF she goes back together and cools correctly I will be ahead of the game. If not I will know what to tell the next owner what the van needs.

Well it is officially tagged today.
This is one of the worst Chevys I have ever worked on.
It is all most like they sat around and tried to figure out how to make formally easy things complicated to fix.
Every thing I had to work on was a PITA.
Compared to my mid 80 full sized Chevy vans.
Sorry this is the LAST Astro I will ever own or work on.......

I have been driving this van around town.doing the daily errant type stuff. Driving wise it has been doing pretty good.
still does not put out very good heat.
Operating temps have been really good almost too low.
The wife like it better than the Extreme Blazer was have.
I am a lucky man having a wife who loves to drive VANS.

Broke the buffer out and the paint does look like it will clean up pretty nice.
In that department the factory paint will clean up decent enough that the few small spots that need touching up can be done cut in the the new paint will blend in pretty good with the original stuff.
Some dumb ass spayed acid wheel cleaner on the wheels and it stained them a bit.I am pretty sure the have a clear anidization (sp) on them.
I have not had a chance to go after them with some Mother's yet.

looks like I will be in the market for a nice hood.

The van looks good after you buffed it. I dont know if you tried it yet, but mequiers makes some stuff ultimate compound and if you really scrub the piss out of it by hand it will work magic...ay any rate looks good, cool color.

Mace thanks for the tip,all I used was trusty old white rubbing compound.
There are some areas that I am going to hit with some 1500 them buff it.some body i think removed some stripes and left light scratches in the paint it's self.
The hooD and roof will defiantly need a repaint job.
The roof rack really needs to go soooo.....

I am pretty sure I can buff the paint out nice and then "cut in" my repairs.....

Had to do some maintenance work today.
When I buy an uninspected van I usually pull the wheels and check things over before I take it to the inspection station.
I cheated on this one and sent it with out looking at it.
The little bit I have driven it the the squealers in the front brakes started sounding off.
dropped 90 bucks at the trusty Advanced Auto Parts.picked up a set of front pas wiper blades and a set of new rams for the rear upper door/factory gull wing.
When I pulled the front wheel I noticed a new caliper and a new steel brake line.there was also a caliper on the driver side along with freash hardware.
this is where i really love coming in behind a paid mechanic.
I will bet 10 to 1 this van has a rubber brake line problem
and the duma$$ paid wrench missed it.Both of the factory rubber lines where still in place.
The calipers retracted decent.

There was not a lot of brake dust on the wheels.
I will go back in and replace the lines.Today I wanted to get the pads replaced before they tore the rotors up

[Linked Image]

While I was there I did hit the one front wheel with some mothers I had handy
before

after

[Linked Image]

these wheels have the clear coming off on them

[Linked Image]

not sure if I like them enough to strip the clear off and just touch up the curb rash and buff out the outer ring/edge.

installed the new rams

All in all it was a good day.....
