It doesn't have anything in Cargo area to mount to. The obvious is that I wil have to drop the gas tank, and drill through the floor. My question is, "How do I secure the seat safely to the thin sheet metal?" If anyone can show me some ideas, or direct me to a website pertaining to the subject it would be much appreciated. Thanks! | | | Re: Van seat install questions #59739 January 25th 2005 8:14 pm | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 201 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 201 | thats a good question ...mine has little latches in the floor that the seats lock into . granted mine is a chevy , but the seats are from a dodge ....i'm still not sure why they fit , i guess the seat frames are all made by the same company or something . if thats the case maybe you could find out what company makes the seats and order the latches from them . then just weld em in . | | | Re: Van seat install questions #59740 January 25th 2005 8:25 pm | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 651 old hand | old hand Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 651 | My 95 Dodge has the latches too...
I imagine you could just drill thru the floor and secure the seat base with 4 HD bolts? Maybe put a steel plate on underside of your van, and bolt thru it for more support. | | | Re: Van seat install questions #59741 January 26th 2005 9:22 am | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 577 old hand | old hand Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 577 | on the other end of the spectrum, my van has absolutely NOTHING latched in. everything is mounted with a bolt through the floor and of course the nuts are rusted on underneath after having a previous life in florida then moving up to virginia. so yes my dremel has seen lots of work already and i gotta go thru it again when i want to put in new carpet, gotta cut out the front seats... | | | Re: Van seat install questions #59742 January 26th 2005 9:28 am | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! I recomend screwing 3/4" plywood to the floor for support and carpet installation, then drill holes and use electrical conduit clams bolted down with grade 8 stainless bolts with the largest washers you can find. | | | Re: Van seat install questions #59743 January 26th 2005 11:58 am | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,866 veteran | veteran Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,866 | When my bench seat was mounted in my van we cut out the buckets that go into the floor as well, and had them professionally welded in. I can now take my bench out when the need arises. | | |
