Hello everyone. I'm Jesse the proud owner of a long overdue, much dreamt about Dodge van. After looking for some time and saving money I finally got my first van last week. It's a 1977 Dodge b200 with a rebuilt 1985 318 with 60k. (Wish I could have got a 360 or more) But I guess it doesn’t really matter because I think I’m seriously in love! Got a great deal from a really nice guy in Salem Or. He was asking 2900 which seemed high to me and he hadn’t posted any photos. So I called him and asked for some photos and he was kind enough to fed-ex some overnight to me in Seattle. We seemed to hit it off really well and I eventually got the van for 1800. He even drove it up for me to Seattle! It was really one of the nicest transactions I’ve ever had with a person. Well it runs really nice. He took great care of it and I hope to carry on the tradition. I will say it seems like the engine is running rich, and has that cold starting problem that seems to be common with these Dodges. I’m no mechanic but I read online that it can be remedied with a performance intake manifold and maybe a new carb (eddelbrock?) any Suggestions?. It's kind of hard because it's an 85 engine and I don’t even know enough if it’s using a stock 4bbl. carb or something else. I visually don’t know how to tell the difference. I guess my work is cut out for me, better start researching. This is a great forum you have going here and I hope to be a regular here. -Arbito - - - [ January 25, 2005, 03:32 AM: Message edited by: arbito ]

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your great score! That's a beautiful van. There are lots of intake/ carb choices available for the 318, and I'm sure you'll be pointed in the right direction here.

Welcome from a fellow 77 B200 owner in Seattle. As TattooingSC said, you did score one sweet van! While they may not be for everyone, my van has the old Edelbrock Performer intake/Holley 600 c.f.m. carb combo which works great in mine. - Where in Seattle are you? I live in the Shoreline area. Would luv to see your van in person and am more than willing to help you out with any upgrades to your van. [ January 25, 2005, 07:23 AM: Message edited by: vandude ]

Welcome aboard! Great score on the van, it looks really clean. I don't believe Dodge ever had a van that came with a 4 barrel carb on a 318 from the factory. Chances are, when the engine was changed, the carb and intake was also.

As far as it running rich, you may just need to run some cleaner through the fuel system and make some fine tuning adjustments. Also if it is really hard starting when it is cold, the choke may not be functioning properly, which will also make it run rich.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome! That is one seriously beautiful van!! I think you got a hell of a deal on it. I have the Edelbrock Performer intake as well, and the Edelbrock 600 CFM four barell. Works great. I think it's all a matter of preference. Personally, I just wanted to keep the components the same. Wish I had done that with the cam, but i guess I can always change that. Good luck with the van.

Thanks for all your great comments and suggestions!

"Vandude"- Your engine looks great and I've been admiring your van on cardomain for sometime. I live in the Ballard area. Let’s meet sometime. Got to save my pennies for engine parts. Just blew a chunk on an alarm, got to keep her somewhat safe in the city.

"Superbeast"- Thanks for the info on a rich running engine.

"Cap'n Scurvy"- Your van is really nice too. Hope to get there someday. I was looking at a performance Edelbrock intake..I think that’s what I'm going to get. I also think I'm going to go with Edelbrock on the carb. Do you have to buy that separate linkage accessory?

Now we just have to get Reed in here. I was looking at that gold dodge van before he bought it, but was unable to make contact with the owner. Glad it went to a good home!

Thanks everyone!

I will post some pictures of the interior soon.
The seller was the original owner and did his own custom interior with his dad when he bought it new. Its needs fixing up and cleaning, but it's in good shape for now. Shaggy type carpet..wood paneling ect.

Thanks for the big welcome. So many of you have such great vans!

Hope I can be of some help to people in the future.. I'm gathering a large amount of links to places with parts for 70's Dodge vans. Although I'm sure my list is small speck compaired to some of your lists. But I will be to help out when I can.

Arbito, don't forget us 80's Dodge van owners. That is if you happen to stumble on any information. Sweet ride you scored there. I like the color.

It's always nice to see another old van. Yours looks to be in great shape. I too am looking forward to seeing more pictures.
All you guys out in Washington state should find a big parking lot in a central location and meet up, could be the start of another club?
