It is a lot of work and time and when you think your close the little things will take twice the time. I say go for it try it and if you fail at least you saved a van from the crusher (maybe to go back) but if it made you stronger as a person it was worth it! I will be here clapping for you every little step!!!

young? Nope, I am stuck in the middle again...
Age becomes an excuse at its time...
Here is an interesting link where a 72 yr old couple builds a barn. A bit of time or a quick peak...

O'Crap? An Irish downer moment... (I am part irish)
Kicked in the butt... hmmm... I tried to think of myself in these situations and concluded that I dont really have that feeling... but more of a NOW WHAT.

Life is problem solving... I tend to focus on solutions instead of existing stuck or being depressed at situations or excuse minded. I take action which gets results... Sometimes good and sometimes bad...

Time... Time will always be a time slice... One does not eat a pizza all at once... but a slice at a time and it is gone.
Fail to Plan... Plan to fail...

If you dedicate time and prioritize, you will be at your chop and me at mine. Its finishing those other projects now while I investigate the chop and formulate a chop plan that is now occurring.
I always under estimate by 1 third. That's just part of the game IMO.

Not even thinking about the crusher... Thinking positive...

I do like that RED van of yours... and that chop too was on my radar.
I would like to see and hear more of the issues with that on your link.
So I dont repeat those mistakes...
I am ready to participate in THE WAVE for you!

When you acquire a project that is poorly done the mistake can really JUMP out at you to the tune of WTFWHT.....

For what ever reason for the builder not so much.

Here is a good picture of a WTFWHT Van.

It looks OK in pictures in person......Well.....
The van was bought cheap and is currently a test bed for for some really cool air lowering tricks and some performance stuff.
Unfortunatly the person that did this chop made some really bad mistakes......

Nothing wrong with planning on paper.
How ever "It all looks good on paper" has allot of meaning on a project like this.
once you start cutting metal and actually throwing sparks. Is when you reach the point of no return.
Things that you spent sleepless nights thinking about turn out easy.Things you thought where going to be easy and did not give much thought to turn out to be challenging.

The saying I like to use "It's only metal" comes into play here.
After all a van is just that a big rolling chunk of metal.
I am all ways amazed by what some guys can come up with on these big old chunks of metal.

It would be a great learning experience if you could share those mistakes. It would help in avoidance... and hopefully solutions. I hope that the mistakes are not opinion related things such as the chop is too excessive or that style mirror just don't look good.

Being different is what a custom is about. This chopper may just have more artismal character than our taste buds are use to (and that opinion is ok but not a bad mistake IMO).

I do welcome pushing the pedal to the metal in open-mindedness when it comes to personal taste. Otherwise it would be a perfect world where we would all own no window black shorty mid ford vans.

No this was not a matter of opinion.
These where some serious bad mistakes made that where buried in bondo.
I guess I should have taken pictures of them.
Really hard to put into words.
Because I really try to stay positive on things I don't care to photograph mistakes
It is one of those you really have to see it situations.
It is really too bad because it it was done right this would have been a very sharp looking chop.
also not knowing the past history of this van and who actually did the work. Out of respect.I will not say any thing that can be taken the wrong way on these forums.

Here is a picture of another Chevy that came from the North West coast that was done right

The builder paid attention to important details.
notice the slider is still there and working. That is a big detail all in ti's self. Not to mention the vent window was still in place
The proportions are correct. It almost looks like it was done from the factory.
This chop also has some age on it.Which is a GREAT thing when you start talking about chops.
