Wow Nate, I sure hope your drums aren't too far gone.

Don't forget the flex hose... maybe since you had both rear brakes binding, it's the real culprit.

When I did my brakes, I shot the entire batch out at once like you're talking about. I'm a lot more confident driving it thanks to that. I'm sure you'll be too.

Please take some pictures of what you find - might be a good reference for other Vanners with vintage vans.

Clear skies!

Like the exhaust Nate. Who did it for you? Stainless and welded?

I don't think they're binding up. They do release when I take my foot off the pedal. It's just that when I did the initial install of the shoes, I adjusted them too far and they were constantly rubbing on the drum creating buku amounts of heat. It was getting so hot that I began to loose the brake pedal. Brake fluid was developing air bubbles.

Hey Jim...I had a local "mom & pop" place do the work. No it's not stainless, but they did weld the system. Sounds good too!

Okay! Got heavy into it today. Replaced just about everything on the rear brakes. New shoes, hardware, adjusters, wheel cylinders, rear brake cables (they were seized afterall!), and I also ended up replacing the steel lines that run across the rear axle to the cylinders. Somebody at one time did a repair and used a funkin compression fitting for the repair. I HATE THAT!!!!!!

Tomorrow I finish the job up since I had to order the brake cables.

UGH! When we got my brothers fifth ave someone had run new brake lines on the rear. Instead of flaring the line at the right length, they took a line too long and bent it up and down in waves to make it fit. That car was full of half ass repairs...

At least it's all straightened out now!
