I've used copper backing before but not on a seem.I have both butt and flange weld as well as a bunch of lets say spot/plug welds. still some fine tuning to go I hope to get the doors hung tonight if my buddy stops by to help me

It works amazingly well; I've never had any of the weld metal stick to it.
The one in your picture looks like a trick magnetic one? I like the idea of the thumbscrew to adjust the copper plate into position. Looks like a great tool to me!
