Heavy, I've never seen that before looks like it would be great for plunging holes from screws and what nots. I've used copper backing before but not on a seem.I have both butt and flange weld as well as a bunch of lets say spot/plug welds.
still some fine tuning to go I hope to get the doors hung tonight if my buddy stops by to help me

Oh it's cool little tool infact heavy said he will donate to me since he's a fiberglass guy now . I can't wait .!!!

I've used a handheld copper spoon-type tool as a backing for welding up the various screw holes left over from when I did away with the luggage racks and the ladder. It works amazingly well; I've never had any of the weld metal stick to it.

The one in your picture looks like a trick magnetic one? I like the idea of the thumbscrew to adjust the copper plate into position. Looks like a great tool to me!
