Back then we used a lot of used doors so you ended up with extra parts. The kit suggested by Munz looks pretty good. | | | Re: Shaved door/solenoid kits | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 216 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 216 | i just put a set in a 67 camaro. they work great. the company was autoloc. i installed a manual cable to pull from inside the wheel well. not hard to do at all. i might put them im my early when and if i decide to redo it.

Google them before using their parts again. | | | Re: Shaved door/solenoid kits | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 18,213 Likes: 2 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 18,213 Likes: 2 | I've always wanted to do this

The solnoids are basically starter motor solnoids (way to powerful), so just just the door poppers and ended up using toyota or nissan central lock motors (same principal but smaller, which are easier to fit). You can even buy aftermarket central lock kits which are usually strong enough to open the tightest of doors.
Some of the door kit kits have 60-90pound solnoids, think about how much pressure you currently use to push/pull your door handle, even measure it if you can, I doubt you'd even use 5. Attaching straight to the latch requires less strength so don't be fooled by bigger is better (it can and will bend your latch) | | | Re: Shaved door/solenoid kits | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 veteran | veteran Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 | I used to use GM power door lock solenoids, but to be honest, there are some doors that they just won't pull. I've used Autoloc parts with no problems. In fact, I have them on my current van. 60lb pull, works just fine, no bending of anything. I tried 30lb solenoids, they wouldn't even budge the door latches. I used to have a guy that got them and other custom door parts for me real cheap, but the economy ate him for breakfast. Have hook up a way of using a small battery to release the doors in case of emergency but i need to switch out to a pull cord. Will have photos up soon on my reader rides listing under freespirt updates. Will have the van down at GVSR in October. | | | Re: Shaved door/solenoid kits | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 16 stranger | stranger Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 16 | Try looking up AVS. I have used their s10 and full size kit. They are basically dual power door lock actuators, but larger. Never had a problem. I Despise autoloc. Receiver sucks. If I wanted a repurposed alarm box, I would repurpose an alarm box. Their kit comes with solenoids brackets that may or may not fit the solenoids. Crappy receiver box. Different solenoids in the last 3 kits I have seen. Poor cables.(I prefer coated bicycle cables). go with AVS next time. I do not work for them, sell them, or know them. I just like their equipment. | | | Re: Shaved door/solenoid kits | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 6,502 Li'l Blue Wagon | Li'l Blue Wagon Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 6,502 | I plan on doing my 91 Dodge shorty soon, but choose to leave the keyhole in place for the dead battery syndrome. I also have a plan for the poppers, but not telling until I can show the completion. Sorry. | | |
