Looks like you are running rich by the looks of tailpipe and residue on running board..

DH-
lil bit, since that running board was perfectly clean when i left virden. 23 miles to the house and looks like that. I think that fuel filter issue needs to be addressed. Wondering if clogged/dirty injectors would cause the rich condition. Hey Reed, will 302 injectors fit this thing?

Adam and Reed-

Thanks guys. May try posting a video of it later once i figure out how, it sounds badass.

IIRC the 302 uses 19lb injector and the 300 uses 12 lb injectors. 302 injectors will not work. The 302 injectors will physically fit, but you would run too rich for the computer to compensate unless you had a chip burned or did some other kind of tuning to the computer.

figured it was worth a try, maybe worth some power or some such garbage like that.

The thing to realize about the Ford fuel injection systems from the late 80s onward is that Ford did a very good job maximizing the power and economy of the motor in stock form. Don't fall for doing things like running a colder thermostat, installing bigger injectors, or any of the other shade-tree hop-ups people will tell you to do. Running anything non-stock will confuse the ECU and will actually end up costing you performance and/or economy, an could even damage the motor.

To modify the motor will require modification of the ECU, either through a tuning system like the TWEECER or Quarterhorse, or buying a custom chip. Frankly, the only modification I would recommend would be switching the fuel injection system from speed density batch fired to MAF-based sequential injection. However, for a daily driver I don;t know if it is worth the expense. I say leave the motor stock for now and enjoy it.

i just want it to quit running rich and getting 8 mpg. I dont want to modify it at all, get it running, then get it pretty. Thats the plan.

Coolant temp sensor, O2 sensor, vacuum leaks, fuel pressure regulator. Also, be sure your base timing is set to 10 BTDC with the SPOUT connector unplugged. Everything I have heard about the fuel injected 300s says they should get near 20 MPG when they are in good shape.
