Hi!
My name is Anton, I'm from cold russian city St-Petersburg.
Two months ago I got Chevy Van Beauville G30 1979, imported in Russian Federation in 2003. Custom fee for old american cars and trucks are VERY hight, so we have not too many vans here.
I was lucky, and my van not too rusty - I'm really happy, because about 6 months in a year we have snow, and in Russia snow usually remove with using salt and very agressive chemical components, thats kill car's body in 4-5 years, after 8 years it's looks like rusty corps.

My van looks:

Yeah, it's not in exellent condition, unfortunately we are very happy, if we can get car in condition like this. I paid around 8000$ for this van.

If somebody still interresting about using and restoring vans in Russia, I will post info abot works with this car.

Of course, I have a lot of stupid and not so stupid questions - it will be nice if I will have the permission to post it in this forum.

Yeah, we have here bears, vodka and vans too! smile
All you want to know about vans in Russia, but afraid to ask grin

Welcome from Germany too.

It's always amazing to see, that and how much US cars are imported to Russia.

Thanks for cool meeting!

I will introduce all problems with my Chevy.
At first, I need new starting device (starter).
Also:
- new doors seal for all 5 doors. My mate from our van club advice me seals produced by Metro company. What you may say about it?

- replace widescreen. It's not a problem here - I know one guy,who can make widescreen - looks like original. But I'm not sure about rubber seal - my a little bit worn, should I get original or seal my fit from another car?

- some rust at the body.

- some interior details are missed - like oil pressure meter, some plastic fenders from dashboard.

- my old carburetor Rochester is dead. Or pretend to be dead. I want new Holley or Edelbrock, but I think, I need new intake or I may use adaptor? What carb fit to my GM Goodwrench 350 engine? I think it's not stock engine.

- need to change oil, oil filter, air filter, sparks, distributor cap, wires. What oil should I add? Mineral? Which companys make goog wires, filters etc?

- some work in the saloon, but not too much.

- new exhaust system. What the best way to calculate all diameters etc? I want make it works best and sound best, but I don't know, where I can find info about exhaust.

I think, thats all - now my van stay in the garage of one russian cars nerd, near "friends" like K5, Suburban, Torino, Mustang and etc. Van is not lonely grin

Soon I will drive it to my street and check more detailed.

PS. excuise me for my terrible english! blush

that van looks great...!

I hope you meant that you paid the equivalent of $800 U.S. simply because if it's $8,000 then i need to start getting some vans inported to Russia...!

I, too, live in a part of the U.S. that has snow on the ground about 6 months of the year, and we use salt... I know just what you mean about cars rusting out quickly...!

don't be afraid to ask anyhting, someone's been there before and can help you out...

when things go bad, you just gotta keep on keepin' on...

Yeah, I mean equivalent of 8000$. Now we can import van, for example if it cost 2000$ in USA, in Russia I must pay something about 10 000$ for custom fee etc.

Hi,

when you have friends in Hamburg, their is the dealer KTS, who has a big book with a lot of parts for US cars.
And in Mielkendorf near Kiel is the dealer M&F at home, who also imports parts for US cars.
