I've wanted to get an old chevy for awhile now and i have a chance to get one now. I was online doing alittle research and found this forum. So 1st off Hello Everyone. The van i'm looking at is a 1978 G10 Shorty, No Windows. It has rust on the outside bottom of the slider and the inside bottom of the front doors. Is there anyplace i should look under the van for rust that could be a major problem? Im not so worried about doing patch panels on the doors but frame wise could be a problem. Do these vans have a chassis or is it a unibody? I'm going to look at it this weekend and if i get it i hope you guys don't mind alot of questions, because i will have alot. I will also post some pictures. Anyway, thanks for any help you can give me.

Chevys from 71 to early-96 are unibody with a "subframe" up front that the engine cradle and front suspension bolts to.

Are there any spots on the front sub frame or the rear frame rails that i should look at that might throw up a red flag. I went to see the van the other day but it started pouring rain and i didn't get a chance to get under it. I'm going tomorrow night to do that. I hope i don't see any major rust on the bottom, i really want to get this van. Thanks for the Welcome!

check body mounts, leaf spring hangars, the frame near the steering box for starters. While your on your back underneath it inspect the floors and "frame" rails for major rot.
