You better believe it. I love my 89 FOrd, and I loved my 84 Ford before it. Actually, in a Ford, i would rather have the 300 than the slant since the Ford weighs over 1000 pounds more than the Dodge. A few years back the original 302 that was in my 89 Ford finally wore out. If I didn't already have a rebuilt 351 from my 84 Ford, I would have swapped the 302 out for a 300. Six cylinder motors are just cooler than v-8s.

I got to drive it for a bit today. Seems its got a few little issues to work out. Has a pretty severe hesitation at about 1/4 throttle. Put a couple gallons of gas in it and that seemed to help. Me thinks theres years old gas in the tank that needs ran out. Tomorrow ill throw a few more gallons in it and some seafoam and run the crap out of it on the highway. Also a slight high idle issue. Vacuum leak most likely. just got to find it.

Change the fuel filter and put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Hesitation could also be a "dead spot" in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

Found one issue, there was no air filter in it, the pcv hose was detached, and the air box is royally screwed up. Bought a filter, new hose for the pcv and a couple gallons of 93 just for good measure. The dead spot is pretty severe accompanied by a slightly high idle. Thinking TPS and a dirty fuel filter. Also both donuts on the exhaust are toast. Gotta wait a week or two to get up some fundage for some diagnosis and repairs.

(1) check the TPS for a dead spot like Nate says
(2) trace all vacuum lines
(3) make sure your base timing is set right (pull the SPOUT and set it to 10 BTDC)
(4) pull the codes from the onboard computer

Severe exhaust leaks can also screw up the fuel mixture since the O2 sensor won't be getting an accurate reading. I'll warn you now that many of the late 80s Ford speed density fuel injection systems have been seriously mistreated by people who don't know how to work with them. Chances are you will need to spend some time fixing all the other "fixes" previous owners have done to the poor van.

Another thing that will really help is to remove all the carbon build-up around the throttle plates. Also pull the the IAC motor (Idle Air Control), clean it and the air passages.
