Tubs are done except carpet. The black stuff is seam sealer and black paint. The interior and carpet will cover everything.

Thank you, everyone.

Getting pretty anxious, a few more weeks should be done. The picture with the wheel mounted, jacked up to about ride height, really gets me excited to have it done.

The other Astro was bad, but this one is going be so much cooler. I really look forward to first outing at a car show.

I am amazed at how quickly this all came together. Obviously you had a plan. Looks great!

I really like the extra hoops you added to the roll cage.
these should actually help to stiffen up and take some flex out of the van.

radicalran: Kinda cheating, my friend Greg has been doing stuff like this for about 25 years. He has a BBB (blown big block) 69 Chevelle that was in Super Chevy magazine. He also worked with Jeff Covey, who raced a Pro Mod back 90s.

Also, transferring parts from the other Astro, is making it a whole lot faster.

Wookee: Since the Astro does not have a full frame, front subframe with boxed body rails, it helps alot. I will be adding a bar, to each hoop, for 5 point harnesses. There will also be a 2 down bars, on the rear hoop - halfway down, going to the floor.

Picked up never used carpet from a place that used to do Astro conversion. It looks awesome, almost shame I have to cut it up.

Actually unlike a Camaro uni body the box style tube frame on theses and the full size vans are pretty strong.

I would make the two rear most down tubes removable.
that way if you do go to an event where racing is not involved that back section over the tubes can be a easily coveted to a nice bed area.

wookee: That is a good idea, except I am 6 foot tall, dont think I would fit back there, even at an angle. I would sleep in one of the 2nd row buckets, if needed.
My Astro is more show than drag racer. If I can afford it, will be hitting car shows. I plan on driving it to the Nats. It is only about 500 miles round trip for me. It will be a little bit of a rough ride, but I have ac, tilt and cruise.
