The bottom two bolts go through the block into the lifter/pushrod gallery. Be aware the Mopar used different size bolts in these holes over the years, so you might have put too small of bolts into the holes. If the bolts are the wrong size then they may let oil seep out.

i never took the bolts out of it to begin with, just loosened them up, i may take them out and put something on them to help seal them better. I got it slowed enough now that i can drive it at least.

That is odd. Are you sure it isn't a leak coming out of the #1 spark plug drool tube or valve cover at that location?

i was coming out of both, the valve cover is still leaking, i ordered a cork gasket for it, seems the rubber one i got doesnt seem to seal real well. I tightened the bolts down and it seems to be better, albiet still leaking a little. Also i priced a new carburetor from Rock Auto, and their price is less than half of what they want from Advanced or Auto Zone.

Do not buy a carb from a parts store. Remanufactured carbs are garbage these days due to no quality control. You will have better luck putting a want ad up over on slantsix.org. You want to find a carb in good unmolested and original condition.

You want to get a carb and clean it up and rebuild it yourself. That way you know it has all the right parts and that none of the factory coatings on have been removed.

Check out THIS carb. If you are wanting a brand new carb, check out THIS ONE.

Why are you giving up on the carb that you have? What problems are you having? Also, if you are looking for a new carb on Rockauto, remember that you don't want a carb for a 1987 Dodge van. Try for a 1977 Dodge van instead. That way you won't get a lean burn carb.

On the valve cover, try finding a flat bit of cement or metal and taping the valve cover flat around the screw holes with a hammer.

Im giving up the old carb because the throttle body around the throttle plate holes is really worn out and loose. and even though i used 2 gaskets like they said to on /6 forum it still leaks air around the gasket surfaces.

I searched a carb for 69 Valiant, thats what the carb came off of and i wanted to make sure i get one that fit right.

When the cork gasket gets here this week i am going to have to do a little tappy tap on the cover to get it to lay flat.
