I don't think she was expecting me to be right up against the door. Had 2 projects going at the same time when she came in. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 | Intense work man! I know the older roofs are less work, but they are all getting harder to find in good shape. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 1,105 Likes: 1 old hand | old hand Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 1,105 Likes: 1 | Man that's a lot of work to put on a roof top!! It looks like the roof is what was holding that wagon together. So that should show how strong it was before you reinforced it to Brinks armored car status Can't wait to see it on the van it is going to look Bob Bitchin!!! Richard

Back at the real project now, I spent quite a bit of time on the framing for the van roof. I didn't take too many pictures Saturday as I was concentrating on bending all the contours to the framework and didn't want to stop to snap pictures. Deb and the girls took the camera to church with them on Sunday, so I snapped a few when they got home. This shows where I had to trim out the windshield pinch weld area. I fabricated a new edge out of the square tubing I bought. It would have been nice to use my tubing roller, but I can't find 1" square dies for it so had to do it the old fashioned way by cutting and bending and welding back together. It prolly was better this way anyway because the rail needed to curve like the windshield in both directions. Anyway, here is the frame on the floor with some cross bracing to hold it's proper shape. Sitting on top of the vista roof Then I laid it on top of the van roof and after a bit of measuring, clamped it in place and marked out the roof (what's left of it anyway) for trimming to the shape of the framework. Frame on floor, I trimmed out the roof area. Up next is hammering some of the rain rail edges, the will sit on top of the framing. I could prolly cut a lot of them off, but will have to do some hammering anyway, then I'll fit the frame on the inside of the van roof. Stay tuned.... | | |
