I'm still wanting to see good detail when you shave the rear tail lites. If I can't wait any longer, i may try on my trailer 1st. See ya in a couple months buddy. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 | Thanks Brad. I can start them at any time. I have the panels I need for them now. I'm really trying to get the Vista roof on the van though. If you get anxious, send me a message and I'll see if I can squeeze it into a weekend. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 | i think the smooth look would be the way to go, maybe instead of his n hers, maybe incorporate a flush fit power moonroof from a newer car? the kind that flip up and back kind of like a spoiler. I think that would be very unique. That would be cool. If you cut a power one off of a car at a boneyard that can vent and open in the back or slide back onto the roof when it is open...that would look really neat. A lot of those have smooth roof areas around them and they have to be really supported from the underside. I definitely like that idea. Sounds like it has to be the plan. Now to find the right roof. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 | The power roof is a good idea. As for the smooth option, it's all about the bracing. If I remember right, the Corvair van had a smooth roof and that was one big hunk of metal. But it had some curve to it and adequate support. Based upon the frame that you built for the vista top, I'd say that you understand support as well as anyone...
Happy Easter! Yeah, a wise man warned me well about bracing | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! I like the smooth roof idea and I also like the power moon roof idea but it doesn't look like you have enough room for the glass to slide back in the van, they do have a power style that slides on top of the vehicle so that might be an option. I would finish the structure of the roof / chop with a smooth roof and and extra roof support underneath the front and sit back and decide if you really need / want it. The vista will definitely let in enough light, ventilation is another factor but you do have windows.
Keep up the great inspirational work Ken. Thanks buddy! Hoping to install the Vista on Saturday. Wanna stop by to lend a hand? We'll get some food and beer. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! And leave out the sun roof for now you have enough to do as it is . This is so true! I'm going to fit the front section of the roof and the sunroof will come as time allows. | | | Re: 84 Dodge......Transformation | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! The sunroof was out of an Impala i believe ......Wookee Thanks for that picture, I had forgotten all about that. Saw a nice one the other day on a Sebring. Would be cool if it will work as to keep it all Mopar. | | |
