Wookee, you were smart to rebuild and look for crate. Let me tell you about our nightmare...... Last may, We found a mint stro on ebay, that was from N.C. Man had too many toys and it was close to hame. $455.00 and we towed it away. They had blown a head gasket and let it sit. Had white soup for oil. The old moter was trash. I thought it would be smart,(and because of my ants), that a used junkyard moter was best. Wow, how stupid! I went 60 mi away to find a used 4.3 Brought it home and installed. Siezed up on the way to work one month later. Had a warrenty. Called the yard and after a wasted trip up because the turds got me a 4.0 ford by mistake!, I got the call for the 4.3. Got it home and installed. (they refused a refund at this point) I installed and it ran great!!! At first. We put about 8000 on it since last july. It smokes like a chimney, about a quart a month. was going to replace seals ain Jan. But now it has developed a cute little barring noise at about 55-60mph. Neighbor who is a mech. listened and said it could "go tommarrow or run another 20000" So in my search I was also looking at a crate moter. In my luck though, we bought an 86 last sept for $200.00. for winter beater. It turned out to be farther gone than I thought. BUT, it had many new parts, plus the moter ran great and I retrieved my $200.00. I pulled the moter to rebuild for the 88. Put it in the shop and pulled the valve covers. It was mint inside. Found it was recently rebuilt, inside 10,000 mi ago. So I may have a happy ending. Hey Billy, If this doesn't go well, I'm having a v-8!! Sorry post so long but it was a hard lesson to learn. By the way, I can install astro moters pretty easy now!!LOL

I just like welding ,doing body mods, and paint work better.Alot less aggravation to me.

Pup,I learned my lesson early in life when I swapped a 6 out for a V/8 in a 66 Chevelle. The V/8 had a self changing oil system.I will only make that mistake once.If it ain't new or rebuilt I will not mess with it especially in a van......Wookee

Well its been almost a year since I have been able to get back to this project.Me and big projects just do not get along well. I was not going to get into a bunch of painting and crap but most of the stuff on the engine/tranny needed cleaning real bad so I went ahead and cleaned and painted it up.The custom vanner in me would not allow me to put this thing back together all nasty. This is still a fairly Low buck project.......... nasty intake - cleaned - painted - [ April 01, 2006, 02:30 AM: Message edited by: wookee ]
