I got it brand-new in november 1987: Through this Vanagon, I came in contact with the german van-scene and that led to my first fullsize-Van, a 1982 G20 with 305 V8 and 350 transmission. Original, it was beige, but got an new paint for the selling-auction, and it arrived in may 1991 from Miami: Sorry for the poor quality of this photo, it was done in the pre-digital era. The photo was shot that day, when the G20 was replaced with a 1986 GMC Vandura 2500 wiht a 350 V8 and a TH400 transmission: This Van was sold in summer 1999, and for the next year I only had the red Vanagon, until I bought in august 2003 the Highway-Bully. Since december 2009 I only have the Highway-Bully and a VW Caddy Maxi as daily-driver. And the Eriba Touring is on all pictures the same trailer, first in original red-colour and in my signature as it looks today.

The red G20 was a stock-conversion with a little bit worn out inside. So I removed everything behind the cab, welded (let weld) in a tube-framing for a dividerwall and for some side-cabinets and had a raw wood base for the bad. No curtains, only milky plastic sticked to the windows. Than the rumour about more emission-control and so on came up, and so I decided to get a van with a controlled catalystic system. Sadly, at that time the all talked about US catalystic system, but overall, the original system wasn't accepted over here and you didn't got any discount on the annual tax. The Vandura 2500 I bought in northern germany, and it was refurbished by the dealer before I got it. But sadly, on the way to the first meeting, the next morning we discovered a wet wall inside. I tried to get it fixed, found a bad hole under the plastic roof, but never got it really sealed.
And than, another rumour came up regarding the annual tax, and it this would have come true, the Van wouldn't have any worth anymore. So, I sold it and stepped back to my red Vanagon. I modified it inside a little bit, added the plastic bumpers and some more.
And the Highway Bully is a really show-van, at the moment absolute empty in the cargo-area. Before I will do anything, I will try to do as much as possible to prevent the classic corrosion at the seals between the sidepanels. Than I have to put some insulation in it, and what I finally will do is not decided yet. And at least, their are some more modifications planned to the outside and the cab. | | | Re: "YOUR" Vans thru the years! | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 9,428 Likes: 2 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 9,428 Likes: 2 | Great pictures guys!
