I am looking for a new air filter for Wolf-Den, and I am fairly sure I saw someone on here awhile, few years?,ago who had a K&N Type filter that replaced the air box on a FI V8 Ford engine. It had two rubber tubes feeding into one filter, tubes where ABOUT 2" diameter each.

I want to replace my airbox with a NON-OILED K&N style filter, but am having no luck yet.

THIS is what the air box I want to get rid of looks like, first picture.

Thanks all.

Fester- if you don't have any luck- drop me a line. I have a K&N air filter setup off of an 89 Bronco you can have for real cheap. You will have to curt the tubes down since they are off a Bronco, but it should fit with some minor tweaking (adjustments, not smoking meth). Personally, I think K&N is a waste of money. Your factory air cleaner will clean just as well, have little to no difference in airflow, and will be much quieter than a K&N filter. Plus, you already have the factory filter and replacement filters are MUCH cheaper than K&N.

Thats why I want a DRY filter, no oil , just the K&N style. I have thought of keeping the stocker, but will have to replace the box if I do as I had a starter fluid accident and the box blew apart ! lol OPPS !

I was just thinking the K&N style would let a little more of that monster 460 show when the hood is up. That way I could polish her up, paint her some and make her look good/better.

Lucky you only blew the air box and didn't blow the heads off the motor!

I'm sure there's a good story in there somewhere.

Let me know if you can't find something closer to you. I suppose you could always mount the K&N filter I have in the stock location on your van and use the stock tubes.

I like the K&N, not for power but convenience, understanding the dirty look filters air better, I've used them for years, BTW air flow does increase with them, proof to that is those who put them on their 2 stoke bikes had to rejet the carbs for ,more fuel.
I ran an open element in my 99 for a short time, result was a drop in mileage, draws in hot air from engine bay, need to increase what comes in the box from the grill by a bigger nozzle going into it from the grill.

Was trying to start Wolf-Den after a long time of no sitting, did not realize the tank was dry, used starter fluid to boost it, well straight starter fluid pissed off the engine, popped back and blew the air box apart ! NOT GOOD !

Mark, I am hoping that the louvers on the hood (110ish) and on the side fenders (12 each side) will HELP relieve some of the under hood heat to the air filter. MAYBE ? ! ?
