starwars tom wyckoff interstellar space truckers I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. I have a palm sander that i think would be alot faster , and i know i have to just watch what i do , can i use 80 grit sand paper or what should i start with , at least to get the edges of the stripes as smooth as the rest of the body . | | | Re: My 81 g20 | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 14 stranger | stranger Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 14 | try a porter cable electric da (dual action) sander. a palm sander is for wood, not paint. the electric da takes the same production paper as an air-powered da, but instead of running a compressor and an air line, you only need an extension cord. you'll need at some 120/240/360/600 grit rolls. it's expensive, but buy the best you can. cheap discs load up too quick, or lose the 'cut' faster.
don't sand it if your not planning on painting it, primer will let water get to metal underneath. next year, you'll be sanding the primer AND the rust off... | | | Re: My 81 g20 | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 3,586 Likes: 1 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 3,586 Likes: 1 | good luck make sure you have a sealer handy when your done , you don't want to waste your time sanding then find rust next time you start back on your project . | | | Re: My 81 g20 | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 2,820 veteran | OP veteran Joined: May 2010 Posts: 2,820 |
