Got a chance to do the axle flip on my 94 B250, the rear axle now sits over the leaf springs on new perches (tacked in).

Problem is, its a little too low, maybe by an inch. To resolve this I have been considering using and AIR LIFT air bag kit for the rear...just to lift it up that 1" I need.

Or, anyone have any experience with COILOVERS, similiar to whats used in track cars? Are they weight bearing and if so, any recommendation on what weight spring....these would replace the rear shocks....

Something similiar to these

Any input appreciated....hopefully not uncharted waters.

Be careful just putting something like that in place of the rear shocks cuz those shock mounts are not meant to be load bearing and probably not strong enough to take that sort of load for an extended period of time. A custom arched rear leaf spring might be the better choice. smile Good luck!

I agree that it looks right to me. Why do you consider it to be too low? If you want a quick/cheap fix you may be able to add longer shackles.

Coil-overs do.

Listen to the above post and re-arch the springs. If you want to add coil-overs then ditch the leafs and start building the rear suspension from scratch. I doubt you want to go that route, so the obvious choice would be air bags. I had them on a phantom dually Suburban that towed my boat many years ago and they lived happily with the leaf springs. I would still re-arch the springs unless you needed the adjustability.

as it sits, its about 1" off the bump stops.

The coilovers were to add height but I think your right, the mounts arent up for load.

Its not off by much, but I'd prefer about 1" higher...

I am leaning towards c notching the frame and adding air bags....but I will see if I can talk to a leaf spring shop about new leafs to get the height perfect....

for now, front is up next for the drop, will keep you posted, appreciate any help or tips!!

I was going to start by taking the overload leaf out of the rear of my 97, as i only want to lower the rear a couple inches, but may check into having the leafs re-arched. I'll keep tabs on your van Ben, to see how you make out.Pinion angle is of great importance so as Not to cause vibration, had enough of that with the B van.

Several people have done the axle flip and re-arched the springs or added heavier leafs.
