Can we double our numbers? I do not see why not. | | | Re: Harrisburg, PA Motorama 2012 | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,359 old hand | old hand Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,359 | Congrats to the Vanners - I like the group photo shot! Wish we were a bit closer to make this show. And as for the weather here in Detroit, last night were clear skies until Dave Jarvis got his van in the doors and set up. When we left it was snowing hard and it's still snowing

I have been too busy Vanning to set down and type up my thoughts on a van event. My boss who just turned four has been keeping me bust during the day and I have been keeping my self busy after she leaves. A few vanners who actually read what I type have made comments that they have not herd any thing about this event or have seen any pictures. Thank you guys for the huge complement.
First I need to thank Kirk for inviting me up and getting me hooked up with Jim from the Pa Dutchmen with a free pass into this show. Having never been up there I really did not know what to expect. When I saw I had to park a good way away take a shuttle bus to the building the show was at I almost went back home. I am really glad I did NOT do that. This show is a pretty big deal in this area.It is located in a hot bed of racing activity. There was allot going on at this show to draw a nice mix of people from younger tuner types to older "old school" types and every thing in between. I feel Kirk did a good job setting up the vans in a pretty small area he had to work with.He also had a nice mix of vans show up there to let the public see what vanning today is about. He had his work van there along with a clean camper van.A nice street driven Chevy and Dodge a 4X4 along with two new style Factory Customs and a classic Factory Custom. He also had a two better show Vans from this area with full murals on display. Snotty and his son did a good job setting up the Moon Lites bar with flyers to all of the local events along with the nationals flyers, and flyers to Mid Western events. That was the first time this vanner has ever walked away from that bar with out the taste of a cherry in his mouth......LOL. They also had one of Wizards videos playing on the bar. The whole set up looked very good. It actually looked professional....LOL
The one thing I really wanted to see was the public's reaction to the vans on display them selves. I really was not disappointed. It is neat to try and stand back and just listen to the public as they walk past the vans. You get to hear good, honest, thoughts from people who know little to nothing about vans and our life style. I am very happy to report that I heard tons of positive remarks about the vans along with our life style. What was better was to be able to tell new interested van owners about events that where coming up in the near future.
I am currently making plans to have my Early ready for next years show.I think it would be pretty cool to double the number of vans next year.
I really feel like INVADING a public show like this with Vans is a really good way to promote our life style to the general public....
Time for me to practice what I am preaching.....

I got back from Autorama Sunday and I'm still digesting everything that went on in the course of 36 hours. Kurk did an outstanding job setting up Motorama and fortunately got some very good support from the local vanners. Getting vans to these indoor shows can be a huge headache. You always have to be concerned exposing these pristine vans to terrible weather and the potentially salty roads. It can also be a tremendous expense, just talk to any of the vanners who have done indoor shows to get enlightened on this. Onward Kurk has an even bigger challenge ahead of him with the Carlisle Truck Nationals. It sure would be nice to get an early or two and a radical in that mix. | | | Re: Harrisburg, PA Motorama 2012 | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 774 old hand | old hand Joined: May 2001 Posts: 774 | Glad to hear it was a good turnout and congrats to everyone on a show well done. Wish we could have made it but it was not to be. Maybe next year! | | | Re: Harrisburg, PA Motorama 2012 | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 7,662 Likes: 2 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 7,662 Likes: 2 | Star Dreamer, this show would be quite the haul for you. Are you doing the ICSA in door shows this year?
Doug, indoor shows can cost a good bit more than doing a normal summer Truck In.
It would be cool for vanners to pick out some indoor shows across the country and have a group of vans show up at each one. With the right interest and planning I think we could pull this off.
A lot of vanners do not feel comfortable inviting the public to our events. If we put forth the effort we can Invade the car guys world and promote our life style. Show the public we are still alive and well....
