this is my first time posting anything, but i need help.
I'm 16 and i have a 77 dodge van that is completly full of spray foam insulation.

the van needs body work but the foam turns out to be realy flamable. I'm afaid to do anything with it all in there. is there any chemical i can use to remove it. or anything i can do to make it easier to remove, aside from just scraping it all off?

Welcome to the site.

Before adding chemicals I'd recommend physically removing as much as possible through mechanical means.

This tool will become your friend once you learn to use it, and can sharpen the blade yourself. Use it with the putty knife looking attachment.

Better versions certainly exist. They get you on the replacement blades. I've beat this tool up pretty good and lent it out not expecting it back working right. Still does though

I had a beautiful 75 Dodge and it had sprey foam in it also and the great thing about spray foam is the you can sleep in the van until noon on a hundred degree day. It is like sleeping in a styrofaom cooler. The bad thing about spray foam is it will rust your van completely out from the inside out. By the time you see rust on the outside it is too late. The chemical that makes the foam... foam, is corrosive. kind of like throwing salt in a beer. My 75 was new when it got the spray foam and seven years later it was showing signs of rust so went through a restoration and new paint. within a year it was back and went down quick, By '86 I bough the Phoenix and by 89 had to retire old silver, the paint was the only thing holding it together. Just a word of warning and experience. be watchful.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard! I did a van a few months ago, and depending on the foam (there are different kinds) you won't find a chemical that will dissolve it. I even bought a chemical that was made to remove it and the stuff will barely remove the residue left behind by it.

The tool that wrcsixeight posted is the best thing I found for getting it out. Work in small areas, take your time and wear a dust mask as the shit won't dissolve in you lungs either.

Also, be very careful not to hit the outer body sheet metal with any tools you are using as it will gouge the metal outward.
