I had mine coming out with some ass drop but if the bracket was moved ahead some it would come out closer to level. The higher the van the straighter the hoist can go in(look at difference between mine and Phoenix)and I was limited to how high I could lift the van up and have it stable.Comes out either way(plus a few more I'd bet)so what ever works for you is the correct and approved method right? cool

Somewhere I have a book that shows a set of plans for the Slant 6 bracket for removal. I built it to specs and it hung just perfect. I could not believe it. Just a piece of cake it does not matter how high or low the van is. it just comes right out. If you lift it wrong and it kind of stands up, That sucker grows arms and legs. It is like putting a cat in a box in reverse. lol We pulled a slant out of my old 73 long ago without any brackets or not knowing there was a bracket needed and wowlol that was like a real bad day. I will keep looking for those plans, I let the bracket go with that slant and good riddence. I did trade the slant and four speed on the floor tranny out of the Phoenix for the small starter from mopar performance that I have now,
I think I got the best end of the deal. That engine had 67,000 miles on it and it was the lowest power slant 6 I ever owned. It would not go over an overpass without dropping down to 45 mph. That was straight out of the box. I bought it new in '86 and they loaded so much pollution crap on that engine ... basically they took a low power engine that would run forever and killed the little power it had with pollution stuff. My old 73 was a peppy little vanloaded it would lug some but that slant would take a beating and keep on ticking...smile

I found a pic of the bracket, I could not find the plans but the picture gives up obvious dimentions. I think It is a piece of 1/4 X 2 angle with a piece of 1/4 X 3 or 4 inch flat bar welded to one leg with a three inch U bolt centered where the picture looks like it is centered. and that one piece of 1/4 X 1 inch Flat bar welded to the bracket and run down to the bolt hile in the block. I tacked it all in place and welded it on the bench to prevent sparks from getting into the vital areas with a tig torch. This bracket works great and picks level so this is all I have ...Hope it helps.

Sweet I'm finally starting to get on this. Have to get the ranchero I bought out of the garage to make room for the van. In the mean time I'm looking for a motor/trans. A dakota or ram 5spd should work right? I don't want to go auto haven't driven the van for months and still go for the clutch. Looking to figure out the motor trans and rearend soon so I can start shopping for all the parts.
