If you use a rustoleum paint I would say that would be good enough. If you want more protection a better way would be to go with a bed liner of some sorts and line the under carriage after you neutralize the rust.

Thats the beauty of Rustoleum. You dont need to lay a primer. Find an organic bases rust neutralizer to treat the rust first though. Otherwise, your rust will come back with a vengeance.

Z, check out my interior build here - https://www.vanning.com/threads/ubbthreads.php/topics/491238/2.html .. go down a little ways and you'll see what I treated my rust with. I must say this stuff is pretty good. I treated exterior rust and have not painted it yet, and there is zero flash rust. Also, I forgot about the POR products. POR is a paint over rust, but is very sensitive to sunlight. Good stuff from what I hear. It is all a basis of opinion, costs, etc..

I got that rust treatment from a place called Bomgaars. Here is a link to the same product on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/PlastiKote-623-Rust-Converter-Oz/dp/B000CPI0QY/ref=pd_sbs_auto1 . I found this stuff applies really well with a piece of old carpet folded in half. Dont ask me why, but between the various methods I used to apply, the carpet piece was best. I also used a wire wheel on my drill to knock off the loose surface bits. You dont want to punch through the rust though. This stuff brings back metal strength.

Heh.. I am a little slow with these update pictures laugh Here is the axle seal replacement from a few weeks back. After this was done, I adjusted the E-Brake underneath. Now the brake comes back far enough inside to actually shut the brake light off while I am cruising. I also got the rear louvers on that I got from Hippieluke (no pics yet). My next plans involve more interior mods during winter break. I dread the thought of working in the snow and minus temps, but I will get me a space heater to try and keep myself warm. Anyways, without further ado..

I found this in the passenger side axle tube.. it felt rubbery.. no clue as to what it is exactly..

That is most likely the seal itself by looking at your pictures the rubber seal is completely gone from the steel sleeve it is attached to normally.
