I am still working on the fuel gauge issue (posted under the Dodge forum). Bought new belts for it and went to install tonight and one is ok and the other is wrong (I think they gave me the one for air conditioning even though I told them no a/c) so I have to exchange that tomorrow. Then I noticed a small leak tonight from behind the water pump right in front of the oil pan....arggghhhh just one more thing and I haven't even got to the brakes yet!!!! Figure if I am going to tear it apart for a new gasket I might as well replace the water pump while I am in there. I am DETERMINED to get ALL of the mechanical stuff done to get it on the road by Spring and to be able to start the rust repair and fiberglass repair in the Spring. One step forward...two steps back!!! | | | Re: My new 77 Dodge project!!!! | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 5,265 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 5,265 | Thats how life is but with determination an ur passion for the van itll get done... Yes Wookee this picture is from the famous Bob Morgan 1800 + old vans photo collection and there are 2 more of this van, 1 identical to yours (in the same spot with the beige chevy in the backround) and 1 dead on driver side shot. I was looking to see if I / Bob have an interior shots but couldn't really figure it out.

Sometimes you just have to walk away for a while and tonight was one of those times. Was trying to replace belts and the alternator was rusted in place. I was getting frustrated trying to get it loose so I just walked away for a while....but I will keep at it because it WILL be worth it in the end and I do REALLY like working on it! Thank you and Wookie for supplying those two pictures of the van the way it used to be. I have printed them out and have them taped up in the garage as motivation. If you come across an interior shot I would love to see it (although I already have the ENTIRE interior already designed in my head)!!! | | | Re: My new 77 Dodge project!!!! | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 4,460 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: May 2006 Posts: 4,460 | i get that buddy, i had to walk away from a severely rounded oil drain bolt today. Then said F it, im gonna pull the pan with the quart or 2 of oil that may still be in it.

Even as you start to drive it you will find seals leaking as I'm sure a lot of them are dried out from sitting. As long as you prepare yourself for these kinds of things, you will at least not be too surprised when they appear. Remember, Keep it Fun! | | | Re: My new 77 Dodge project!!!! | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 6,256 Likes: 164 Master Metal Sculptor | OP Master Metal Sculptor Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 6,256 Likes: 164 | That's the best reason to have 2 projects in the garage Unfortunately, if the van has been sitting for a while, you are going to find more leaks. Yea....I am expecting more leaks but I know once everything is replaced I will be good to go for a long time! As for having 2 projects in the garage, I need to get the tandem I bought last year brought home from Ohio....then I'll have 2 projects going on at once....but that might put me into overload!!!! | | |
