Your true gentleman!!, thank you so much for your time and the info you've posted, really pleased you've established that my regulator is still there! Don't know if theres not many of this type around (inside gauge cluster)as all the posts on the net seem the plug in at back type.Other memebers will probably find this of use as well. Now we've established its there i'll get a friend of mine whos got a voltmeter to have a look and using the manual see what he can find.
Will let you know if anything comes to light, thanks again.
Mark

Happy to help. I got my info from the 1983 Factory Service Manual I bought on eBay back when I got my van.

Here's a 79 FSM for $30.

Here's a complete set for all 1979 vehicles for $50 with shipping.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

Totally agree, really good of Reed to photograph / post that, I'm sure we won't be the last vanners to look at those photos and learn something.

The manuals I posted are both factory Dodge service manuals, the ones you want. They put cheesy covers on them back in the 70s.

IT'S SOLVED!!! My friend ran some tests on the circuit and said he found a wire from the headlight switch was shorting the board, you can just see the offending wire top right of photo. Not sure what he's done but both gauges and all my lights are working fine.
Thanks again for all your help guys and now I know where that "stealth voltage regulator" is, when it blows I'm changing over to the IC set up Reed mentioned so I can actually see it!!
All the best
Mark
