Well, heres pics so far. Nothing much to look at except 6 big holes and the pos exhaust manifold. Plans o clean up the valve cover and intake and make em look halfway decent again. dropped off the new valve seals to the machine shop today so he can cook the head and clean er up. Many thanks to Reed for helping me out with a ton of missing hardware!

If you have removed the catalytic converters, you can also lose the AIR pump and the injection tube that goes to the back of the head. You can make a little plate out of flat steel and bolt it over the hole in the head, or you can track down one of the factory block off plates that was put on some 318s. You might also need to weld up a hole in a catalytic converter for the air injection if you remove the pump and hoses. However, the bracket for the pump is shared with the A/C compressor so you need to leave at least the bracket.

I strongly advocate for reinstalling the A/C. I live in Washington State and can't live (happily) without A/C. However, be ready for sticker shock when you go to get the system either recharged or converted to 134A. I have converted several vehicles and it always ends up costing around $1000. however, you may want to get in touch with Charlie_S over on Slantsix.org. He lives in Florida and is a slant six A/C guru. He might be able to help you out setting up your van's A/C.

Say, does your exhaust manifold have provisions for an O2 sensor?

+1, but I like to use a wire brush mounted on a drill motor. A shop vac helps to keep the mess down.
