I was putting the water neck back on when there was a SNAP. I didnt know I lost an ear to the neck until water started gushing out. JB Weld wouldnt hold until I got the new neck, so right now, the van is sitting. Everything will be here Friday thankfully. Funny thing was, the neck was a 1/4" away from the head when it happened. How do you explain that one? *scratches head*
I did simple green the engine twice. That grease is so caked on there, I think the only remedy is to pull the engine and have it hot tanked!!! Of course, that is not going to happen anytime soon. For now, I am taking all of this experience, and I will apply it to the next Econo one day. I am just thankful I have a decent running van with one of Ford's best motors ever made. | | | Re: My FREE '87 Econo I drove 350 miles home (57 Pics) | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 Maniac | Maniac Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 | Good looking rims! Glad you found some. Try taking the van to a coin-op carwash and blasting the grime off the motor.

The story on this van goes, this guy in Colorado contacted me about a van he has and that he would take $500 for it. Fast forward 6 weeks, several 20-30 minute phone calls shooting the breeze, etc.. and my impatience on him taking action on getting it up here to me. Eventually he understood that I would be doing a lot of work to it, and that I should invest the $500 he would take into making it nice. I just wish I didnt have to do the floor pans, but it is what it is. You should try that. Put an ad up saying "Wanted Ford Van body from '75-91" .. then put that you dont have much to spend, work out trade etc.. it may take some time depending on your area, but the key is not giving up. I had my ad up for a few months before I hit this one. | | | Re: My FREE '87 Econo I drove 350 miles home (57 Pics) | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,020 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,020 | Good looking rims! If I take it down to the coin op, I am gonna make sure I park it at the curb for a little while. I dont wanna crack any exhaust manifolds.. lol | | | Re: My FREE '87 Econo I drove 350 miles home (57 Pics) | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 467 addict | addict Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 467 | I had a add up for a while "LOOKING for work vans" runing or not all i got was a few 99 carevans asking 5k I said no thanks lol, might try it agian

I worked at a self serve car wash for a few year when I was a pup.Saw allot of guys come in and use the bays to clean engines.Never saw any one crack a manifold..... I did have to clean up the freaking grease they left behind.....LOL
