Since the visor and tail are fiberglass I know you have to be careful on how you strip them. I read most chemical strippers remove the gel and you will have fibers sticking up. I could sand, but my luck it will be wavy. So next step is to save and have a shop that do Corvettes and such clean, prep and paint them. I figured since they work all day with fiber glass they are my best choice. There is a Corvette restoration place by me and you should see those Vettes. Mostly 50's to early 60's, but some 70's scattered in there. Beautiful cars. So hopefully soon I will have the visor and tail on. Money is only slowing me up.

Stripping off the layers of old paint. I would install them, but they are dark metallic blue. Richard I really need to see a picture of the fiberglass parts you are working with. fiberglass usually holds paint very well.As long as the paint that is on them is not flaking off or applied with a roller, and is not cracking.Just scuff the parts down with some 320 sand paper and shoot them with some sealer and the color to match the van. IMO fiberglass painted to match the color of the van always looks better....... I just did a visor my self..... before during after ..........Wookee

The tail looks like the one I am doing. The Odyssey. I will try and post some pics. They're not doing anything you said. The paint is old, oxidized, and dull, but sound. I sanded yesterday a small area and from the looks they have only been shot up once the dark metallic blue. A typical color of the era. I am going to try what you said, heck if it doesn't work all I lose is a little time and money. But if it works I will save a lot of money. Should I use DuPont 222S sealer, variprime, then paint (acrylic enamel). Any suggestions on the paint manufacture. I have used PPG Deltron, and DuPont Imron. I know both were urethane, but went on nice and easy and looked great. I never shot acrylic. Thanks for the help.

The visor in the picture just as a red oxide enamel primer at the place I buy my PPG paints. I also used the red oxide primer because the van and the parts are red. I am using this primer on my Early This has a sealer built into it and it covers and works out very well. .......Wookee
