OK I just received pics of the van almost ready for the first coat of primer. Just doing last minute prep work.
Looks pretty sad. Hopefully by next week I will be able to post it wearing its first coat of paint.

TIG welding out of all of the forms of welding is the hardest to learn to do correctly.unlike Mig where you set your amps and pull a trigger.More variables come into play.
Amps tungsten size fill wire size/type. Thickness of metal you are welding, all come into play with this form of welding.
this is a very hands on form of welding.Just reading a book does not cut it.
Working the torch and the fill rod correctly also comes into play.
A good class will teach you the basics.Actually doing that type of welding will help you to perfect your technique. The saying practice makes perfect really comes rings true with this type of welding.
I have seen guys weld sheet metal together thinner than body sheet metal and not warp it

The van really does not look so sad. I see the potential for a very clean Dodge just as it sets.....
The job is being done correctly. It will last a long time.

Thanks guys for the positive comments. I was told I will have it back done by the Holiday. Which Holiday I don't know. I don't want to rush them. I'd rather them take their time then rush it and I have to take it back for something.
As for TIG welding I liked it the best. We trained on steel stainless and regular and also aluminum. Down to 1/16th of an inch and up to 3/16ths of an inch. The funnest was trying to do aluminum. It was so easy to blow holes and make poor welds. I got very good at it because like Wookee said you need a lot of practice which I did after class. I liked it because it was the cleanest and most challenging to do. Yet that was 27 years ago and I haven't touched a TIG since then. At that time like now no one was hiring and if they were you had to have min of two years welding on and off site. It is that catch 22 Have to have experience yet can't get hired to get it. So I became an auto tech and gave up welding.

Can't wait to see this van out of the booth. Love the 70's theme idea.

Thanks guys for the great comments.
Well the van is at the custom shop sucking my money tree dry and now I have to think of the interior. Which we do ourselves!!!
The family and I went down to the local fabric warehouse. They have just about everything for and from the early 1900's up.
So I found the 60's/70's section and was just over whelmed with what they have. I thought before going I had the interior planned. OH no going there just threw my interior into all different directions.
So I thought I would post some pics of the front running candidates to see what you think. You know how it goes, the tackier the fabric the more 70's it looks.
So here are pics of fabric for trim and rear seating, gorilla fur for partial top around sunroof and I didn't get the pics of the simulated wood grain vinyl for the table. There was a lot more that I didn't take pics of. Some of those just might make it into the interior. Who knows!!
Well here they are, let me know if they are 70's enough;

This is really red. Don't know why it looks pinkish. Disregard the pink one. It didn't make it.

That's great.I wish, we had something like that over here in Germany.

Nearling nothing available, and if you wish something special like that material which looks like from the insiede of a UH1D you have to find a fitting material and than sew it by yourself :-(
