A 12 volt linear actuator attaches straight to the battery and works with a simple 3 position switch. Here is a picture of mine. It lifts my 225 pound door with ease. It's rated at 1300 pounds and I bought it on ebay for $250.00 I believe Brian has a similar type lifting his hood open. The hinge point on his van is just behind the lower air dam, right at the bottom. With the curve of the dam, the nose moves away from the van as it opens, giving a lot of clearance when open. very nice GULLWING door setup KEN.I like your hinges setup to. I'd like to see pictures of that. I still need to redesign my hinges to get more clearance on my door. Mines not the typical gull wing door though, so a lot of the ideas already used don't quite work. I will take pictures for you but it will take a while, because I haven't been there for more than 2 years because of my health-problems. The Van is build in by other vehicles and is standing in the corner. We must first make some space to get the wingdoor open. I think I'll go there within a month, so I'm taking the camera with me.
